In 15 BC, Roman troops encountered deserted Celtic settlements in Central Europe, signalling a strategic retreat by the Celts. Once prosperous traders along the Amber Road, the Celts turned to warfare around 450 BC due to climate change. In 390 BC, they famously captured Rome under Brenis at the Battle of Allia. By the mid-3rd century BC, they established centralized settlements for trade and production. However, increasing threats from Germanic tribes and Romans led to the decline of their distinct culture by the first century BC.
