Portugal is a joke. Is a good country if you came from Ethiopia or you are an oligarchs. Tourist and digital nomad kill the market, all the rest are exploited cheaper slave mainly you are doomed.I’m Eu citizen I was offered 1000€ net pay for a call center in Porto. I risked to end up homeless or food bank unless you do not have a second and even a third income. To buy food, bills, healthcare and survive sharing with other six people. Run 🏃‍♂️ folks.

Ao senhor de Oeiras. O povo português precisa que o país construa novas casas, é verdade. Por enquanto, o povo quer viver na sua cidade e não na periferia. Queremos que as cidade mantenham as suas vidas nacionais.

Portugal send half
of its poorest population to Brazil in the 1900’s. It has only 10 million people to manage and is part of the EU. If your country still is in economic downfall despite all that than it’s your own fault

Longterm the country will fall far behind, with all the money going to investors.

The real problem is the main party in power Partido Socialista, who is in power for 50 years.

People still don't see that tourism is killing everything around here. As a natural portuguese residence, and as a waiter at a restaurant, I can day with much conviction that tourism is simply a plague around here. "Portugal lives from tourism" and therefore many portuguese people are looking for a living outside of country. We are loosing our originality and more importantly, our country from ourselves.

Asking a real estate agent whether you should buy a home right now is like to asking an alcoholic whether they think you should have a drink lol. Homes in my neighborhood that cost around $450k in sales in 2019 are now going for $800 to $950k. Every seller in my neighborhood is currently making a $350k profit. Simply unreal. In all honesty, deflation is what we require. The only other option is for many people to go bankrupt, which would also be bad for the economy. That is the only way to return to normal.

More and more we going to see this type of not news, is just part of the 2030 agenda wich is trying to supress all type of independent business and separated us as a community blaming visible brands such as airbnb. Private property is on risk as we hear more word expropiation, wich occurs in countrys like Venezuela or Cuba. The housing problem is real but it has being a problem before airbnb exist, property owners that invest on realstate as a business they want profit, simple, goverments around the globe are blaming tourism or housing brands for their mistakes and corruption thru the years. We have to see all perspectives of the situation. In my case Buenos Aires is a large city of south america full of slums or villas miseria as some people call it since the 1930´s and now you see people struggling to find housing or rent incresing, but the slums or villas are bigger and bigger, so were is the problem? Airbnb or bad goverments who now are seeking to make profit from something that it appears handy.

I had to leave my apartment in Porto. They raised the renting price for my apartment from 600 to 1400 euros per month in a matter of 4 years. It is ridiculous what they are doing in Porto. Tourism and AirBnb are destroying the cities.

I don't get it, if you walk around in Lisbon, or any other socalled "tourist" town in Portugal you see hundreds of derelict, abandoned properties or unused office/manufactering properties which could be turned in social housing or low rent projects very easily by the country. Not very hard to do, if they can do this in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, France why not in Portugal. Tourists influx in Portugal has just started, 100.000s of Northers Boomers are going to migrate south in the next 20 years, so now is the time to get your act together.

I'm portuguese and I have to say there's another problem that wasn't mentioned here: public transportation!! Portugal is a small country and it would be easy to connect major cities to smaller towns with many fast trains, allowing people to have decent lives, further away from the major cities, also allowing the growth of smaller towns. But reality is way different: either you own a car and spend hours trying to get to the center of the city... or you'll have to live in the city, with your parents or sharing an apartment with other people.

Portugal could be an amazing country... fair to its people, turists and new residents from other countries. But it's like everywhere else: money rules.
