"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.” - Margaret Thatcher
Well... France ran out of other people's money... Time will tell if the easy-going lifestyle with lot of paid vacations was worth it

Some people just aren't ready with frugal living, and that's just so baffling because there is a limit for everything. We fail to consume things that we produce due to our greed.

Wait, what would happen to frence if the sanctions appkied to Russia were applied to them. Their country would crack in a week. Europe is mortgaged up to its eyeballs and if countries dont get a handle on the debt, interest will enslave everyone and destory countries. Russia suffered for 2 decades when they were made to pay all the soviet and Tsarist russia debts (they also had to pay all the debts of the republics as well which I think was a bit unfair). Their debt is very low and that is why they can stomach high interest rates because they can afford it.

Well it started decades ago. It was a joke to see year after year a budget based on 3% GDP growth which of course never happened. So decades of ingrained deficits plus extra spending during the latest years, and now you see a well deserved and foreseeable debt disaster.

You just don’t get it do you?

The current political impasse is over €60 Billion that Germany needs to modernise itself for a carbon free future. it doesn’t have the money and current fiscal rules prevent Germany from borrowing it.

BUT in 2021 alone it paid €33 Billion to the EU, who spent it on administration or gave it to other EU nations. The following year, 2022, it paid €20 Billion, and in 2023 it paid €17.4 Billion.

It had that €60 Billion. The EU took it.

The EU no longer have it. They spent it and gave it away. The EU can’t help Germany. And the EU wants and needs Germany to keep paying.

To use Thatchers analogy, Germany isn’t a frugal housewife who put a little aside every week for a rainy day…..

it is the Dickens-like character who gives all his money to the poor and has nothing left for Christmas.

All those French protesters who hated the changes in their pension think money just comes out of the ground. Oh wait, that's called oil, so it can't be that. They think money is something that comes out of a DnD bag of holding and need to come back to reality.

France's problem is its political aristocracy and overstaffing in the civil service (5.7 million to date).
For example, there are 1,200 state agencies, in which former elected officials and senior civil servants, very well paid, sleep and produce nothing.
These agencies alone cost the State 80 billion per year. Once retired, these aristocrats will receive a 5-figure pension.
Our political staff is not tackling this problem, because they are the primary beneficiaries.
The administrative millefeuille is so complex and costly that it slows down all productive initiatives and deters entrepreneurship.
And European officials are making it even more complex and rigid...
