So considering the F-14 is EFM & it is considered one of the best & most accurate FDM in the sim why the 3rd place for EFM? EFM just means they use an API to communicate with the sim as a display & control system - it's really about implementation & the EFM (being external) is a black box to the system, so yes it can be crap (naming no names) but it can also be as good as or better than PFM. I would agree that dogfights between SFM & other FMs is not a particularly realistic mix.

I actually hope someone brings out an official A7 dcs approved flight model, I absolutely love them they were the last gun fighters of the u.s navy in Vietnam and had an impressive record the phantoms replaced them but they regretted not having guns and because of this there record suffered in air to air kill ratio's but after the gun pod and then a gun being placed on the phantoms they became the jets they should of been! Plus I notice the 4 cannons on the A7 wasn't modeled properly either.

Put a Brewster Buffalo skin over the F16 flight model and it will tend to win.

You shouldnt base the fuel load by capacity you should make both aircrafts have the same fuel enough for 10mins not half half everything which is unfair for heavier planes

I was an AO in a Navy A7E squadron. VA-94 from 1975 to '79. I don't remember why, we never loaded sidewinders on fuselage mounted rails, stations 4 and 5. The only time we ever loaded those stations was with inert practice models. This was for training purposes. It was over 45 years ago, I remember thinking it was odd to never use them.

Missile launchers can be wing mounted but they were usually for anti-ship or anti-ground targets. The A7s were never meant to go air to air. That was the Phantom's and Tom Cat's domain.

Was in the USAF in the early 70s, F4 engine mech, I heard a story about an A7E that was being tracked closely by a MiG trying to sneak up on him. Both were at low altitude, the A7E was warned and the pilot ejected heavy stores and fuel pods. One of those struck the MiG and knocked it down. I asked several pilots about this and some heard the same story. I would like to say it was true but who knows. War Stories, you know.

Mig 21 doesn't have enough wing for a close in, turning dogfight. They did best in dash in, shoot and run like hell against the US and Israel.

Without stores (or with only two Sidewinders), the A-7 should comfortably outclass the Mig 21 in a turning fight. So regardless of the accuracy of the flight-envelope models and flying skills, the results are realistic at least.
The thrust to weight ratios are first of all not quite what you assume. They're much more comparable in practice. Without reheat, we're talking about 0.47 for the Mig 21 and 0.50 for the A-7 (two missiles, 50% fuel). With reheat - which will finish the Mig 21's fuel supply very rapidly -, T/W is around 0.76 with 2 missiles and full fuel.
But never mind that, because the real killer is the A-7s wing. The wing loading is 20% less than for the Mig 21. But again, the real killer is the aspect ratio, which is 4, much greater than the Mig's 2.225. To make matters even worse, the A-7 has a trapezoidal wing, which is also highly advantageous at high loads. Pointy, triangular wings like the Mig's are the worst possible from the perspective of induced drag. The only thing the Mig 21's wing is good for is supersonic flight and landing (where there is no performance requirement). Otherwise it's a big drag. Loading it with g-s is the worst thing you can do. You'll lose your speed and energy immediately.
The A-7, otoh, can sustain significantly more than 4g at 500 knots without losing speed or altitude. Without reheat, it's almost as good as the F-35 with reheat.

Two weeks ago, I drove down to London (well, Kingston-upon-Thames) to meet a colleague from the Bangladesh Air Force; an Air Commodore. Took my laptop, X56 and TPR pedals as well as my Oculus Rift S headset. He flies Chengdu F-7s and was amazed at the realism of the DCS MiG-21.

Also, I have the Corsair on Strike Fighters 2. It's kind of similar to FC3. Their flight models aren't too bad but there's no way on Earth can it fly like in this video. It looks like the aircraft has been seriously buffed to make it perform better. I mean, the Thrust-to-Weight ratio is worse than the MiG-21 but it has a sharper bank turn.

A7E vs MIG 21 is like fighting a supersonic jet with no afterburner and non-super sonic capability aka the A7 having those issues.

Nice to see some love for the A-7 Corsair on this channel. SLUF was a heck of an airplane. We could have used it for the GWOT to be honest, versus all those endless F/A-18 sorties. SLUF and A-10 were/are great for the kind of air support role the GWOT demanded. It's a shame the Pentagon didn't keep them.

Hey dudes, on your ship to ship scenarios, I believe both sea sparrow point defense, evolved sea sparrow, and sm2. and other standard missile series have surface to surface ( ship to ship) modes.

Just remember the A-7 replaced the A-4 During the late 60's for the Navy, i wouldn't mind playing some of the older aircraft along side some of the modern stuff in a customized scenario or the like.

It’s surprising that you failed the dogfight on the MiG, technically the MiG-21 is a much more maneuverable aircraft than the heavy A-7 Corsair.
