I had a catch this morning after finishing the bottom . Completely hollowing out the bowl and doing a touch up on the rim and boom ten or so pieces .. The worst part it could have been sanded out oh well. Thanks Richard

No need to demonstrate the catch with the "spindle "gouge. I have already done that.

Richard I have a question in relation to the spindle gouge
Sometimes when I go across the wood grain I start ok then it's like the gouge skips and jumps across the wood. Please, what am I doing wrong

On topic, Richard! Will you also review using the gouge wings? I use my deep-fluted gouge with a fingernail grind almost as much as I do the skew on spindles. Of course, whatever works for each of us is the practice we should follow. -- Russell.

Výtečná detailní ukázka nejen pro začátečníky, pokročilý má možnost konfrontace s vlastním držením nástroje. Je dobré se neustále znovu a znovu učit. 👌

The best view showing the difference between bowl gouge and spindle gouge I have ever seen. Best explanation of how a catch happens. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂 PS: How about this, a video title that tells it like it is. 👍👍

Since December 2021, I've always learned something from your videos.
I can't stop admiring your practicality.
You always show us that practical way to achieve our goals.

Thanks Richard, I knew this but your reinforcement with backup video was tremendous, Thankyou. I’m at western Sydney turners and do some of the training there. Your instructional videos are a great source for my training Thankyou. I e
Was talking to an older turner the other day and he told me that he met you a long time ago at a teacher in service and you were fantastic and had time for everyone there. I do appreciate your time in taking editing and uploading these videos for everyone to enjoy.these

Excellent. I've watched this video 3 times and I think I get it. The spindle gouge can be used on a bowl for a push cut but only on the left wing tip. The bowl gouge allows one to use the right wing because it is a supported cut.

Very helpful - a question - why would you then choose to use a spindle gouge rather than a bowl gouge on bowl?

It’s so clear when you are explaining, but I wasn’t aware of the concept that the edge always needs support from the bevel. That’s basically how woodturning works, isn’t it? Big lesson🤦🏻‍♂️
