Supernova energy travels near the speed of light, so we wouldn't even know there existed a supernova until its energy hit us. Then it's too late. Gaining pre-knowledge of an approaching energy blast wave would require detectors light weeks away from Earth or farther. Then to get the warning to Earth before the blast wave actually hits us, the warning would have to propagate at some degree of superluminal speed (subspace enables such speeds, but we still don't know how to use them for useful communications) to "gain" on the blast wave. Otherwise, the warning will arrive at Earth with or slightly later than the blast wave itself, since both are travelling at or near the speed of light. Too late to be useful. For example, if Betelgeuse--Alph or 58 Orionis--has gone supernova we won't know it until the blast hits us. We can already tell that it is gearing up for an eventual supernova but it could be hundreds or thousands of years away. If Betelgeuse blew up today we wouldn't know of it for another 500 years (unless, of course, we learn to detect the cascade of superluminal wave propagations generated by the SN in particle fields which constitute dark matter to us at present) Preparing for some event like a nearby supernova is not something we should wait for until the last moment. A massive continuous electromagnetic shield, perhaps generated around an engineered EMF transmitter and placed at each of the Lagrangian points would be the best way to prepare to deflect the anticipated energy blast; cosmic rays, x-rays and other forms of atomic radiation, from directly hitting Earth's surface. That is something we could engineer and put in place long before threatened by a SN blast from any direction.

At the half-way point through this movie I already had made a list of scientific and imaginative absurdities. It is scary to think our lives might be in the hands of scientists like the ones portrayed here. There is a bit of entertainment value to watching this totally off-the-wall disaster threat movie, though. It's best just to suspend one's logical and scientific mind, if you've been so trained, and enjoy the plot as it is, preferably with a glass of wine, vodka, or whiskey to suppress any urges to exercise any form of reality-based thinking!

One thing for sure, if you're thinking of buying a utility vehicle, GMC is the way to go! This movie proves that for sure!
