vrr with GSync monitor bad for app that rendered in low fps, my monitor Hz dropped to 1 digit and that's stuttery as hell.
ОтветитьI'm by no means an expert in any of this stuff, I just want to say that during my recent PC gaming years, i've never had an input lag or flickering or any type of problem with g-sync or v-sync or anything, even though people on reddit call it trash etc. if u guys buy a modern monitor it'll be just great
ОтветитьI honestly just turned off GSYNC on my AW3423DW, Valheim, Skyrim, cyberpunk and so many more just flicker and its annoying.
ОтветитьI never had oled flicker on my c2 but i originally had a black screen on and off issue of i disturbed exclusive full screen with free sync on for about the first month then it went away with an update about a year ago
ОтветитьI get flicker on my g5 32inch only on Duckstation sometimes when i leave fullscreen. Closing the app fixed the problem.
ОтветитьAMD's contributions to widespread adoption over high end home theater displays wasn't even mentioned. This is a huge reason why gsync "certified" became a thing. Nvidia had a me too moment. There is no reason a proprietary closed environment player would ever support an open format other than because they had to.
ОтветитьEggcelent video
Ответитьi have acer nitro vg240y with only hdmi .. can i use freesync with 3060ti gpu ? plz answer
ОтветитьCould you cover 3D screens from Acer Lenovo ans Samsung ? :D
ОтветитьI got the LG UG OLED 27GR95QE-B in use for 6 months now and am quite happy with it. Only real downside beside the lack of text clarity, which doesn't bother me too much (fixed quite a bit with Windows ClearType), my Monitor has bad VRR G-Sync flicker. Only playable in my opinion with G-Sync (Compatible) disabled in the NVIDIA driver.
I have two question left after this great video.
1. Monitor is connected via HDMI 2.1 to my 3080 and VRR in the monitor's OSD is enabled. As soon as I disable G-Sync (Compatible) in the NVIDIA driver and only VRR is enabled via monitor's OSD, VRR is not working right? Have to say though I dont experience any tearing even in fast paced FPS but don't know if it's because of VRR working or just the low response time of the WOLED panel. Just curious if VRR is working when only enabled via monitor's OSD.
2. Googled it but not really sure If I should use the monitor with 10 or 12 bpc output color depth? Does it even makes a difference?
Keep up the good work! Found this channel when I was looking for a new monitor 6 months ago and choose the LG based on your reviews. Still watching new videos because I'm interested and love the quality content on this channel.
Where are the Super Ultrawide Reviews... Still haven't seen a review on the Samsung 57 inch or the Samsung OLED G9?
Ответитьare there any recommendations for a 360hz 1080p IPS with ULMB2?
ОтветитьTimmy boyo, It's bold to claim that nvidia has better vetting for panels that get G-sync badge than AMD got for FreeSync panels. Got any actual proof on that?
ОтветитьI can only choose Fast sync in NVCP - is it the same as Adaptive sync?
ОтветитьRegarding flicker ive noticed it much more on my consoles than on pc, so if somebody wanted to test for flickering I'd use and xbox or ps5 for that
ОтветитьHow do i cap FC 24 to 238 fps on AMD?
Ответитьi hope you guys will cover new qd oled/woled monitors with built in kvm as part of its feature set. for some reason it's difficult to find this info on the monitors announced at ces 24
ОтветитьHello can you make a video for asrock PG27Q15R2A reviews please?
ОтветитьWaiting for aw2725df review !
ОтветитьI hope someone can answer me. What is the difference between gigabyte g27qc and the g27qc-a ? Is there a difference. Between adaptive sync and free sync ?
ОтветитьI hope he reviews the "Benq Ex270qm" monitor as well. Since it is 1440p, IPS, and has HDMI 2.1.
Ответитьsince you noticed battle nonsense video why didn't you talk about how G-sync and freesync compare in terms of latency !? which is the most important thing
ОтветитьTl;dr i can only buy another monitor if i struggle gamma flicker on my pg42eq?
How is gsync about "too many variations of scenes" in games instead of straight picture analyzing QA process?
Over the past 1 week of reading i saw so many terms and there's is none that would simply offer "smooth no flicker no tearing" just gazzilion of conflicting features on several thousands worth monitor that everyone rates perfectly yet only some poor attention aware customers cry on official forum about it. Regrets, regrets everywhere.
UPD: I was eventually able to achieve minimization of effects by shrinking hz from 120 to 100 hz... That said, the solution is still not straightforward, and I can't see how this can be reusable/leading to any kind of conclusion. How is this metric not part of core things before dispatching display to production?
I really enjoyed your summary of the history of adaptive sync. Excellent research. Thanks!
ОтветитьThe adaptive-sync-over-HDMI did surprise me in a nasty way (also why I reported it in the previous video in the comments). I have an nvidia desktop system, and a laptop with intel/nvidia Optimus. My new monitor supports G-Sync and Freesync, and it was known to me, it only had a single DisplayPort and then two HDMI 2.0 ports. I didn't know that Freesync HDMI 2.0 and VRR-support-HDMI 2.1 are different things. So, my laptop can't get VRR to the monitor, because only the HDMI ports are available. And both the onboard intel and both the dedicated nvidia output on my laptop don't support VRR over that HDMI port, anyway you cut it. Or you would need to find a sort of 'DisplayPort to HDMI 2.1 converter that supports the VRR signal' but those don't really exist I believe.
ОтветитьUsed a VA panel with gsync module as well as an lg c2 with no dedicated module and they both flicker, lol. The oled less so, but it's mostly an issue on some loading screens and visual novels, even with the framerate capped globally. Not a huge issue. I think the VA was a $400 1080p lenovo
ОтветитьMan I love this channel, you are helping the community so much by sharing the knowledge. Thank you, I hope you continue to make quality content.
ОтветитьOLED is so amazing I can't believe VRR would hold someone back from switching, just turn it off and enjoy your 360 hz. Love my Alienware 27 QD-OLED
ОтветитьHigher FPS does lead to lower frame time, even if the monitor can't keep up. Most pro-players do not use any sort of VRR technology.
Ответитьgreat vid. I'm still not fully clued up on the effects of vsync on games. would be really interested in an updated look at input latency testing and the effects of vsync under different conditions/frame rates
ОтветитьHi Tim, do you look at PWM flicker of the panel itself vs just VRR or adaptive sync? OLEDs are apparently major offenders of PWM induced nausea and health issues to 10% of the population. LCD and such have zero PWM flicker.
ОтветитьCan a HDMI 2.1 port (RTX 4080 Super, 3x DP 1.4a, 2x HDMI 2.1a) send VRR via a HDMI to DP cable? I have a sim rig pushing 3x 1440P 165hz monitors via DP and another monitor on my desk (all 4 monitors are identical Dell G3223D, which have DP 1.4, HDMI 2.0, and Type C-Alt DP 1.4). If not what DP switch is safe and stable to switch between my sim rig and desk?
ОтветитьHello, please consider reviewing an affordable 40 inch IPS ultrawide by MSI - mag401qr.
ОтветитьI had some flickering with my LG 27GR95QE while playing leauge of legends with gsync on but the issue wasnt the monitor itself and actually the hdmi cable. I swapped this out to high quality cable and my issues completely went away!
ОтветитьI keep having this dilemma if I should buy an AW3423DW (G-sync Ultimate) or AW3423DWF (FreeSync Premium Pro). I have an Nvidia card.
ОтветитьPlease review the Thermaltake TGM-I27FQ monitor!
Information on it is pretty scarce, though it seems like a very promising product.
Tim, I find your information invaluable . Thank you very much. Whilst the data is excellent, the data rate exceeds my adaptive audio sync capability. Is there any chance that you could slow down your delivery rate? I have to repeat several times to absorb the excellent content. Thank you
ОтветитьWhat about using Adaptive Sync with Enhanced Sync?
ОтветитьDoes adaptive sync work alongside HDR?
ОтветитьI play my pc on my tv it supports vrr at 4k 120 but every now and then the screen flickers black on and off idk what the issue is help plz
ОтветитьPSA to anyone reading this. Do not underestimate the benefit of a STABLE framerate. Would use to appreciate this back in the day way VRR wasn't a thing so the different between stable and unstable was night and day with v-sync. But don't let this trick you into into thinking VRR invalidates the purpose of a stable framerate. If you are not playing a competitive twitch based game(I even do it then because I'm not good enough to care about going beyond 240fps), always cap your framerate to something you can achieve 99.9% of the time, even if you are losing out of frames most of the time, you shouldn't have your GPU going 100% all the time. It feels much smoother where your frametime is completely locked and you get less immersion breaks during stressful points in the game if you are already capped to the framerate it would drop to.
ОтветитьI would like to add something peculiar. That happened to me with lg 45gr95qe I have two video cards 4090 and 7900 xt
With 4090 gsync on monitor would flicker in certain games Sometimes in Menus loading screens and some gameplay.
Which was extremely annoying.
I have not had this issue since i last used Nvidia 2080 ti with samsung g9 va panel version.
When I switched to amd 6800xt at the time flickering went away Then I upgraded to 7900xt, no flicker, Then I upgraded the monitor to the lg 45gr95qe everything was smooth Until I upgraded a video card to 4090 And then all of a sudden, the flickering started, just like it did with a 2080 ti And the g9.
So i changed the monitor to alienware aw3423dwf. No more flickering with nether of those cards i mentioned, It's been n
9 months since.
I got the alienware
And it's developed bubbles under the screen film So I've been a little disappointed about it, gonna have to replace it again.
I just bought a Samsung S90D. I tried to activate Gsync in the control panel. I can activate Gsync. However, my display does not appear on the page so I cannot select it for Gsync and apply. Am I missing something? Am I waiting for an update from Nvidia or Samsung?
ОтветитьI have a Mini LED Hisense U7K tv my 4090 pc is connected too and have turned VRR off because the flicker is really bad in some games, especially badly optimized ones which micro stutter and drop out of the VRR refresh rate of 48fps (Farming Simulator 22 being the worst offender) So its not just OLED that has the problem.
Ответитьcan i play monitor eith 144/165/180 alongside a 60Hz tv duplicating display eith any problem??? ips pnel....please help. 4070 ti super...
ОтветитьYou can't find a monitor that only has g-sync, that is not "compatible".
Change my mind.
I’m completely against OLED monitors. I got the LG 27GS95QE and it flickers in every game I have where the scene is dark. The text is blurry and I read EVERYWHERE on Reddit that VRR flicker and blurry text is an expectation with OLED monitors. There’s a lot of cope saying it’s “rare” , cus it isn’t.
ОтветитьSo if i have a shit graphic card like 2060 super and my monitor of 180hz. i shld have adaptive sync on monitor, v-sync on, and set game fps cap at 178hz, got it.
ОтветитьI know you might not check this but do you have a video or something that explains the difference between the normal HDR pipeline and the freestone premium pro hdr pipeline? I would like to know or at least understand the difference.
Ответить
