Dedicated theaters are such an interesting topic. I have 2 living room theaters so my stance is more towards multi-purpose rooms but there are days that I had a dedicated theater and I’m sure folks feel the same way.

Your wife is right about women, I’m a women and have had my home theatre built and kitted out doing some of it myself with my husbands help , it’s had about 3 versions and it’s pretty good now, and it is expensive, but I love this hobby

My wife and I share our finances, we dont keep what we spend on anything separate from one another. Is this normal for some people to keep their spending secret from their wives? Maybe its a rich person way of thinking? 😂

I must disagree on 1 point though: there are a LOT of series with very high production values that are worthy of being shown on your system. Off the top of my head: Dune Prophecy, GoT, Foundation, Day of the Jackal, Lioness, Paris Has Fallen, Star Trek SNW, Andor… I could go on for days.

Having a wife that can enjoy your hobby is well is everything! :D My wife says very similar things with speakers and headphone audio being that I review equipment more from the audiophile side. It's not so much that she's more picky it's more that they know what to look for and what sound signature they like and understand that they have their own preferences.

I’m with your wife. I am projector all the way even though we have an OLED in addition to our projector in our theater. My husband and I have built two home theaters together during our marriage and consider it a joint hobby that we love. When we first met, I had set up and wired a 5.1 system in my apartment with one of those big rear projection TVs. A HT is a requirement in any home I live in.

Silly question.
But... how much of the current system is paid for and not on loan for current or pending review or donations for supporting the channel?
Kaleidoscape servers, the speakers at $1800 each, the 17" SvS subwoofers etc.
Be interesting to see what percentage is paid for that us mere mortals could only dream of buying.

I fully appreciate that most of the system, the house etc is all paid for with hard earned money but just be interested in the balance between what your wife is reacting to thats all yours and not a demo room of new review stock.

Does anybody else when talking your wife call her Mrs. or just by her first name?

Real talk on the third row... you mentioned that you don't have enough friends to make use of the third row, and that even six is hard. I know it's not necessarily a lack of friends, or even friends who like movies but do you feel it's odd that not more people come over? I have this issue and although my dedicated home theater isn't as nice as yours, it will hold its own. I invite friends for a movie night but rarely do people take advantage. Is it because when friends come over, and all of the sudden they feel it should be a more verbally social gathering instead of sitting down for a 2+ hour movie? Do people still feel that going to the "movies" means to actually go to the theaters? I have over 1,000 movies on disc so it's definitely a lack of choices and I can get access to new releases on streaming if needed so people have options. I know some friends immediately go to theaters to watch a brand new release so maybe it's not as exciting?

Also, great to have your wife Nancy come on and share the moments and thoughts together!
