Thank you for sharing Richard 👍
ОтветитьThanks for showing us the differences. My favorite is now my D-Way (I believe its 1 1/4”) Lots of tops and rolling pins.
ОтветитьThose tools can be so grabby, right? Thanks for the demo, Richard!
ОтветитьThank you for sharing your wisdom and experience.
ОтветитьThank you. I was just discussing types of roughing gouges. I have a continental style that came with some used tool I purchased. It has worked well enough for me.
ОтветитьI could swear you said in several of the previous videos you didn't even own a regular "English" type roughing gouge, and that they were useless because you couldn't see what you were doing.
in this video on the other hand, there is not the slightest criticism of that gouge type.
When somebody of your standing presents an item in that manner, it is an automatic endorsement.
And in the context of your earlier dismissals, that creates a cognitive dissonance.
Are you intentionally using that as a didactic device?
Sometimes I have the feeling you are being deadpan ironic and I just fail to notice.
Thank you! I was saving money to buy a deep-fluted one and discovered that I have two continental ones. I thought they were old-fashioned - although I have been using them for a long time. So - saving some money! Kind regards.
ОтветитьGreat video. I think it would have been better to explain why you can't used spindle roughing gouges on face work (I know the reason myself, because of the weak tang). Showing people the reason why might help them to remember.
ОтветитьHi Richard, whats your opinion on the Robust tooltest?
ОтветитьGood little video.
ОтветитьWhen you say “never ever”, why so? Please explain to this beginner. Thank you.
ОтветитьI've had a "Continental Roughing Gouge" for years and didn't know what it was called. Bought it in a set. Thanks for sharing. Great video 👍👍
ОтветитьI prefer the continental style, rounded edge as this is very flexible, one tool does all for less detailed spindles. I also have the English one, if you cut on 45 degree angle it can cut as well as the skew for me.
ОтветитьThank for sharing Richard!
ОтветитьI have been a fan of your for so many years. I first saw a vhs tape of your work in the late 90s. I was hooked. I watched it 25 times at least. You have been an inspiration. Your superpower is woodturning. I have learned so much from you. Thank you
ОтветитьRichard thank you for all your videos they are great, i was wondering if you could do a video on the spindle gouge and how to not get run-backs thanks again keep up the good work
Ответить"Continental Roughing Gouge" got mine with a Sears set I have had for eons. I liked it but because the other kids had different one, I got the ones they used (I have a 1 and 1/4 carter and sons that I love for the big stuff) My grandson, whom I am teaching to turn, and does not have the prejudices I have, picked up the continental and he loves it. I may have to see If I can find another one of those. LOL. Great video Richard , Harold Mills.
ОтветитьGreat lesson Richard.
ОтветитьJust found your channel and am looking forward to learning from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
ОтветитьAs a matter of interest, who sells a 2" roughing gouge?
And what would you recommend to stop that annoying slipping drive centre?
Good morning Richard thank you for another useful and informative video. I own a continental gouge got it along with my lathe, I’ve never used it as it looks to be ground at about 25 degrees. What would you recommend regards james
ОтветитьDoes a larger roughing gouge allow for more material removal? I have a fairly basic one, and it does rough out, even shape, but I always wonder if a two inch one may offer some advantages
ОтветитьGoing video-by-video through your playlist. Loving them all. I bought an old, used, heavy lathe, probably similar to the one you used in the prior video, and I have been searching and searching for instructions on how to use it. I haven't tried using it yet, because I want to be sure I'm using it safely and properly. By passing your knowledge along, I feel you are really gifting me with a new hobby and enabling me to pursue my love and desire to learn this craft. Thank you.
ОтветитьHow do you sharpen a continental gouge. Do you recommend a fingernail grind? Why or why not?
Ответить❤Nice to meet you you again i read all your books when i was younger and they are actually the most inspiring literature on Woodturning thank you 💪🏻
ОтветитьWhew, As a subscriber I’m glad I discovered your channel. But question: Is there a difference between a spindle gouge & a roughing gouge!? For just rounding down the wood?
ОтветитьNoticed a couple of times the wood stopped spinning. Is that a safety feature or due to belt slipping?
