At first, the Russian authorities swore that there will never be an invasion of Ukraine, calling it a provocation from the West. After the invasion of Ukraine happened, they said that this was not an invasion at all. During the first days young conscripts were spotted along the frontlines. Some reported eliminated. Though Putin swore the conscripts will never take part in hostilities. In fact, it is against the criminal military code of Russia to send untrained conscripts to combat zones. So Putin got really desperate to something so 'very illegal'.
