This iPhone doesnt have The official iOS update from Apple. IPhone 2g supports iOS 1.0, 2.0, 3.0. Not iOS 7, 8 or 9 or whatever it is.

This just came up in my recommended videos, I remember watching it years ago. Funny seeing it now that you can’t even activate the 2g on any US carrier now, or the 3g for that matter.

wow. Can't believe that this phone has a better camera than my google pixel 6. While the resolution is obviously worse, the color is so much better and accurate to real life. Color is so much more important than resolution to me.

An iPhone 2G in 2014 is like having an iPhone 8 in 2024 yet the 8 is still usable. The last year the 2G was probably non obsolete was probably 2010

What can you do with an iPhone 2G in 2024?

Update in October 2024:

❌ Voice Calls - technically this depends on if 2G/EDGE service is still available with your carrier, though since many countries have completely shut down their 2G networks since this video was published, calls and texts will likely no longer work.

❌ Text Messages - see above

❓ Email - will probably still work with IMAP/SMTP/POP3 email servers assuming it uses a supported encryption protocol, but logging in with Gmail (and possibly other similar email services like Yahoo/AOL as well?) does not work anymore.

❌ Video Chat - never worked at all to begin with

❌ Apps & Games - pretty sure that custom app store in Whited00r no longer works (can someone confirm this?), but even if it does still work, the majority of the apps in there would be too out of date to work properly.

✅ Music - will always continue to work

✅ Movies - will always continue to work

❓ Connectivity - Wi-Fi will still work assuming your router still supports the proper wireless protocol (B and/or G), but as before, mobile network connectivity (2G/EDGE) will likely not work anymore. Bluetooth and wired (30-pin cable) connectivity will always continue to work.

❌ Camera and Video - never had a good quality camera to begin with, and would certainly not be acceptable nowadays.
