ОтветитьTraversy Media: How to be a better web developer
Also: How to be a better man
Thanks from the Turkey Brad! Now I'm really hopefully myself.
ОтветитьThank you sir you are the best teacher
Ответитьtoo late already go sick. I don't think I can ever be coder ever again. LOLs. I also learned the western healthcare system isn't that good for physical or mental. Step one for recovery is changing your diet and lifestyle. Well i learned there more important things in life. Just don't let work and stress put you 6ft under or harm your mental.
ОтветитьThank you for this. Totally relate.
ОтветитьThanks Brad for this Video. What you talked about are very necessary stuff in life. We all need life-work balance. I would definitely recommend this video to my kids. Thanks you
ОтветитьThe physical health aspect is no joke simply because it seems to have nothing to do with anything code-related. You need to take literally at least 30min to an hour 'out of your day' just for exercise.
ОтветитьHi Brad, I just want to say thank you for everything you have done. I learnt to be a FE dev by your videos. I have just had 2 years exp in FE dev but I can deeply understand what you want to share with us. And I find my solution just like you said, find a hobby, connect and strengthen the relationship. That makes my life more meaningful and coding more fun.
All the best wishes for you and your family.
Its very important to have social connections else you will regret it later, i know by experience :(
ОтветитьLove the advice...I started running regularly.
ОтветитьAfter 6 years of work I'm in the situation you're explaining. So much coding and no enjoying free time. Maybe it's time for better habits. Thanks for the advice
ОтветитьI think I have some mental issues, but never got diagnosed, just started my career as a software Engineer (been a week) and every new thing they give me to learn I feel so heavy I always feel like I'm not good enough, and constant through and worry about things I have to do,
Maybe I'm just dumb I don't know.
But I have zero self-confidence,
I think of nothing else except to complete my work, I have stopped smiling, I sit in front of computer whole day. Trying to figure out how things work. And I don't feel accomplished at all, I just worry all the time.
I just worry and feel stressed all the time.
wise man wise word:)
ОтветитьThanks for your precious opinions 🙏
ОтветитьHey Im doing this at 54 ( over 28 years ). The mental draining for me is because I can never relax and my clients dont understand the complexity of what they want.
Good Advice.
High pay job, more stress and unironically you'll have to dish out half of your earnings to look after your health.
ОтветитьIm 38 and just beginning! the work life balance is difficult for me to maintain, but family first. Great video!
ОтветитьIm diagnosed with depression, anxiety and adhd and is a developer LOL. Dang it Brad.
ОтветитьAs an under-grad student, I already understand what you were saying. Man…so much mental pain. I know my journey to become a developer still take a long time to get there but…rn it just too much for me. Thank you Brad 🙏🏻 I really appreciated it.
Ответить100% I am only 30 and I find coding to be mentally draining. Yes for physical health, doing squats every day before being sedentary makes a big difference. Also yes mental health, don't take work too seriously.
What has helped me very much has been getting hobbies that are distinctly different than coding. For example I do carpentry(badly) but it is very satisfying to be able to work on something that, when you run into a problem, it can be fixed by swinging a hammer at it. The contrast is beautiful.
It's difficult to code for longer hours, cognitive functioning declines and not doing any physical activity build stress.
I just do brutal full body workout at the end of the day and kaboom!, all stress gone, enjoy few remaining hours.
Spot on…i got 20 years under my belt to and its amazing i feel like you was reading my mind! Snd i thought i was the only one 😆😁
ОтветитьI learnt to code in late 90's. When i coded i noticed that made me too obsessed about it. The mental energy that you mentioned made me decide i didn't want to make a career about it. Sometimes i regret it, sometimes i think it was the best decision since i was able to do a lot of other stuff. Your videos have helped me to catch up and start with little projects since it's something i really liked to do.
ОтветитьHold my like man ....
ОтветитьThank you man, I really appreciate you taking the time to talk about this, because it is everywhere everyday but belittled
ОтветитьI really appreciate the realistic perspective you give us in these videos. I really needed this lately because I've coded so much in the past month not knowing about burnout and now I haven't touched the computer in about a week. Hoping to get my enthusiasm back soon!
ОтветитьSir thanks for sharing your story. I've found gardening the best relief of the stress; this and walking for an hour in the evening (3 miles) has made all the difference.
ОтветитьMan this video hitting hard, I'm only 22 and just recently got my first job as a dev and I've already been overdoing it, sitting at my desk for 12+ hours a day, working on weekends and shit. Idk if it's because it's my first job and I feel I need to perform or if it's because of covid and when you're working remotely it's hard to just "switch off" but yeah... I really need to take better care of myself. Thanks for the vid.
Ответить❤️
ОтветитьYou are the best bruh
ОтветитьThanks for the post my friend. I can sadly relate and I'm still in that dark deep hole atm. I set aside skipping sleep on Weds as a sling fest that worked great until about 41 then nope. I still do an all nighter every few weeks just trying to provide for my Family but now I'm on the other side of 50 and f**k it's hard. It has negatively affected every aspect of my life. Thanks for the tips brother and for caring enough to post.
.
You are the best coding instructor on the internet.
ОтветитьThank you for sharing, I've now decided not to take this route anymore, as you've now shared the reality of how it is. I'm not a fan of the isolation aspect of it, I love to be alone, but I want to choose a career where there is opportunity for personal growth involving other people. I also need to work on my social anxiety by being around people more and coding can put me into a state of mind where I dont want to be around people.
ОтветитьBrad you are such a good person bro thank you for all you do for the web developers community, much respect bro
Ответитьthank u so much my teacher BRAD we all LOVE U BRO
ОтветитьI’m not a programmer by profession, but I think this applies to any job.
ОтветитьReally nice to see him giving genuinely good reflection on what we love doing coding and what effects it has on the most precious thing one has: life, living, health. Kudos for keeping this up.
ОтветитьVery true, it is one of the most satisfying jobs in the world, but eventually once you start having start a family, eventually it catches up with you.
ОтветитьThat video was so close to my experience, it's amazing. Thanks!
ОтветитьThe problem is that I can't focus on both work and other entertainments like relationships. It is hard. If I'm in the work side, I'm stressed cause we need connections. However, if I'm in the relationships side, I consider myself a weak person cause I care about something emotional like relationships and keep the real work away. This is really really painful
ОтветитьI appreciate these videos as much as the tutorials. Thanks for being open.
Ответитьawesome
ОтветитьI am a senior backend developer and I have ADHD! I feel every single advice you talk about
ОтветитьI like to work in nature, like woodwork and gardening. Especially when you're on the countryside, it's so satisfying!
ОтветитьYou may have saved my life, man. I'm a year or so late, but I really appreciate this.
ОтветитьThank you so much for saying this. This is something most of us don't think about but over the years I have realised there is a cost that we pay when we just code all day.
Ответить24 and I’ve been going nonstop since 2018, thanks for this video as I’m starting to feel the effects 😅
ОтветитьYou mentioned all the things that I ignore and I understand I'm wrong but still haven't found a balance yet.
ОтветитьBrad, it's sad to hear such a mental condition from your end.
And, I understand, as I was also over there at one time.
But, I've recently found that meditating everyday for 20mins helps a lot.
All thanks to the situations because of which I explored an app which has been very very amazing for keeping me mentally healthy, it's Miracle of Mind, by Sadhguru.
Again, this isn't any promotion, I just genuinly wanted to share something that has worked for me, with you.
You can research about it and give it a try!
Btw, thank you so much for all the content you upload, Brad.
