Neat... GIMP 3.0 will then finally be able to catch up a bit to Krita.

How can Gimp suck so much?
Trying to do anything in it is just pain. It's seriously in trouble. There's nothing set up by default to start working easily, that definitely discourages new users.
Even Pinta is better for any day to day casual usage.

These new features are a huge leap for GIMP and I hope even more improvements will come soon now when Adobe is going up in flames. I bought the affinity suite when there was a sale but have been using gimp for several years exclusively and it's been tough sometimes. Now there might be a bright future for GIMP.

Maybe in another 40 years they'll figure out how to implement spot channels.

Has anyone got an answer for this problem I'm experiencing with "GIMP 2.10"? I use the "free select" tool and highlight some areas on my image, I then fill those areas with a colour and I now want to change the mode of that colour fill to something such as "hard light" or "multiply" etc., but I don't know how. In "GIMP 2.8" it was straightforward, but not anymore.

Had only GIMP been more user friendly and intuitive to use.... but it's not.

Actually Gimp is impractical in situations where including a normal paint do a better job being guidance for the user. I mean, Gimp needs more retouch on how it works. It is more easy edit an image in Blender than in Gimp. Gimp is very outdated. And I can continue comparing, Inkscape do a much more comfortable and practical work than Gimp. A web App is more powerfull than Gimp. But I use gimp because I have no other 2D pixel and compositing app, except Image Magick. So, the only better thing of gimp actually are a little set of things, not so easy to replace but at the same time not so hard neither. So it needs improvements urgently.

Inkscape was on my mind, and later, I got it is about gimp.

I think the Gimp development teams are all good inventions and zero talent. They have the ability to attract that.

Sounds good but with stone‐age selection tools sorry I can't imagine how it will be suffering to use such program

At this point, if a college student decides to start an open source image editing program from scratch, they'd be able to catch up to photoshop before Gimp released version 3.

been using 2.99 for like 10 years... this was supposed to come out ~year ago too man the suspense.

GIMP took too long time to get native outlined text. Awating for a stable release of GIMP 3.

My favorite feature coming in 3.0 is an expanded key/button config so i can set it up for easy, intuitive and quick pan/zoom/move like you can in 2.8

Outline text? FINALLY. A decade late, but I appreciate it. I no longer need to paste the text to a new canvas, then select the letters, then select -> pixel grow -> paint black + select -> feather -> paint black

Non-destructive editing (almost) everywhere and bounding box alignment to me as a non-professional user are absolutely great things. Not sure if it worth the 20 years "wait time" since Gimp 2 release, but definitely a welcoming feature. Let's hope they will be able to finalize both features to perfection till 2044 for the Gimp 4 release.

It looks like GIMP is all one window now also. That was the one thing that made me quit using it before. It was just weird. I may have to give this new version a try. I have Affinity Photo currently, which I love, but who knows it's future now that Canva owns it. I don't need a lot of features... just some lighting adjustment abilities, add text with outlines, and that's pretty much it. Looks like GIMP has all that covered.

Getting excited for GIMP 3.0 is like getting excited that you can eat your tasteless soup with a spoon now instead of your hands.

And they still didn't add curves to lasso select tool? That was a must have, since i recon that ai auto select is too hard for smaller team to implement ( or am i wrong? )

Recently, I stared using GIMP 2.10 on MAC and learned almost all its features in just 25hrs. I love it! GIMP can almost do everything that Photoshop does. Visual and interaction design can be improved. Looking forward to installing Gimp 3.0 stable version.

Is it possible to edit Raw files with latest Gimp 2.10.38? thanks for latest info.

No talk of making the interface LARGER and easier to use out of the box. Will 3.0 come with y'know Ads.

Almost all of the new features look literally equal to photoshop one's, which is great in my opinion for convenience and productivity, but I am wondering if Adobe will not complain or do something about it.

My question: did the controls improve on this version? like blender did...
The last time I tried Gimp, after being used to Photoshop controls, it was a nightmare to use...
