In this video I have a truck with a variable geometry turbo. I give a quick description on how variable geometry turbos ( VGT ) work, take one apart to show you what's inside, explain common problems, and what to look for when you have it apart.
I also give installation and first time start up tips to get the most life out of your repaired, rebuilt, or new variable geometry turbo.
A lot of people would assume the turbo charger needs replacing of you have problems with the VGT system. That might not be the case. I send this unit out for repair and give you the cost differences between repair, rebuilt, and replacement.
There might not be anything wrong with the turbo. It might just need a good cleaning. I hope the tips I shared in this video help people save the cost of replacing a turbo that may just need cleaning or just a few minor repairs.
