UrbanSPOOK: The Most Controversial Analog Horror Series | LAZY HALLOWEEN

I know pastra's comment is pinned, so i'm writing this with both the video and his comment in mind:

Pastra's comment is not a good portrayal of his criticism. Instead of coming off as "confusion as to why a series with such distasteful and poorly handled elements such as CSA was given such high praise despite there being so little there of substance besides it" as he puts it, his twitter post comes off as a hate campaign and encouraging people to NOT watch something, if not flat out talk like people shouldn't watch something because HE didn't like it.

As for the Reddit one, you CAN get an idea of what the deleted post was trying to say, that UrbanSpook's work was a reflection of him as a person. Which as we've seen alot of times, it is a very shitty thing to say regardless of how we feel about someone's work. It's the logic of "Any actor that plays a nazi in a movie must have questionable morals", when no, you can't just define a person like that. Separate the art from the artist is tricky but it's still important so we don't put very serious labels on people.

The thing that can be said about these situations is that UrbanSpook, at the time at least, was the type of creator that needed to be smooth-talked when criticizing his work, otherwise he thinks you're mostly trying to insult him rather than expecting him to improve. In other words, a very fragile ego, and as such jumps into defense mode.

As for the last segment of "Can UrbanSpook actually work?", i feel the main problem is that we're ONLY working from the perspective of the police. Like you showed yourself, the one time it had more going than the paintings with the voice acting, it kind of hits hard. I think had we actually gotten to see characterization of the victims, it would have added more substance. So even if the story went nowhere, it would have at least made us care, otherwise you end up in a FNAF situation where somehow the part of kids getting killed is not even THAT important.

Have you heard of Crypt TV? They've got some great stuff, especially compared to The Painter.

I think we should really talk more about naming a CSA victim character after a REAL LIVING PERSON, A CONTENT CREATOR!!! if i were cory id be filing a fucking restraining order, id be incredibly disturbed and scared !! Its so fucked up. Its possible that urbanSPOOK didnt know when they made the character, which would be okay, but as far as i know theyve never addressed it and said it wasnt named after him! Pretty vile!!

No matter how much I watch this video, I get a massive laugh every time from the intro skit for Lighthouse

I honestly really like the art pieces. The story is just awful though so it takes away from the paintings themselves

I love the part of this that dissects urban spook, but I gotta be honest. I feel like you misrepresented the earlier horror movie scene in the intro of the video. The 70s and 80s were full of extremely gory movies, they just didn't have a widespread appeal. (I'd say that modern movies are the same). The trend of horror franchises being the main financial successes and the way that companies churned out horror that completely misses the point has also been around since the beginning of horror's existence. It also feels crazy to say that 2015 was the start of horror becoming more cinematic and deep when some of the earliest horror classics are more about the story and themes than any scares.

one of my favorite points is how the characters names are said, then killed off instantly so you dont get to know any of them. I feel like telling someone who your favorite character in the painter you would say killer 1 or killer 2 by default because looking at it as a whole, they're the only real CHARACTERS

also isn't it literally standard police procedure that an officer always remains at the scene to make sure that crime scene isn't messed with or contaminated
how did the killer/killers get the painting to the car when there was supposed to be an officer at the scene

I've only known about this series through this video. this series is gross and the creator is a temper tantrum having baby when it's criticised (sorry if I spelt anything wrong I can't read)

You CANNOT just drop that info about the McMartian Preschool trials without me ruining they were all bunk. It was mid satanic panic and the accusations were brought about by a deeply unwell woman. The police investigation was severely botched too. You can't just say there were abuse allegations....

all i have to say is that i honestly like some of the art except for the ftoy cory one, it’s honestly so awful that he had named the painting that when the victim was a literal 11 year old AND not to mention he SOLD a T-SHIRT it. Everything would’ve been better if he never added that, along with the long necked and the jigsaw baby. making children die in such a horrific way makes me sick to my stomach, everything in the series is lazy and all the same, the only thing that was good was the 911 call but it was so confusing, it’s strange and disgusting, even if it’s all a fictional story it’s still awful and gives me chills because murder is an actual thing that can happen at any moment but although i kinda like the art but its sad how such talent could have a horrid story behind it, and the way he responds to criticism is actually funny and pathetic. I do not support urbanspooks and do not like his responses to such traumatic situations. But that is my opinion,

The thing is they would of died pretty dawm fast depending on where it takes place because everyone would have a form of gun that would blast holes in the murders or swat and the government would get involved pretty fast and curfews would be enforced immediately they wouldn't be able to get away for that dawm long

Would been way cooler if the killers were former paintings themselves and they were making their own prophets or whatever and the paintings would come alive then the big reveal is a master painter.

Before I start throwing around attacks about content, I always ask myself - is it possible the author is a former victim? Are they maybe trying to work through some crap?

I was going to be a voice actor for them. But I backed down because I felt extremely uncomfortable and basically ghosted them.

I'm suprised that you spent an hour and a half on this series, but didn't go harder into criticizing the logistics of these crimes.

The people who say "this is so grounded in reality" are really pushing it🤣

My biggest issue with "The painter" is the over-explaination of the details.

The premise is genuinely so interesting, and even some of the gruesome shit, I'm kind of into. But we definitely need some plot progression. Why couldn't these cases have been handled by the same police officer, who'd write the case files, and THEN write some notes or diary entries so we get to know the detective handling it?

The only thing i hear about this catalogue portfolios is : Her legs were cut off, her hands were cut off...

Overpowered villain who acts like a god, no one can beat them no matter how easy it actually is to do so, they kill their victims in the most gorey and needlessly over the top ways imaginable for no reason other than "cuz fuck you in particular", and has so much needless edge it gives Episode Shadow Infinite a run for his money, with a creator that smoked so much copium up his own ass that he thinks his piss is the next coming of Christ itself and will literally Karen Banshee screech at anyone for daring to give even extremely minor advice on how to improve the story and content as a whole because "how dare someone who has an inkling of what they're talking about not lavish me and my shitstorm I call a story in endless tonguebaths, the fucking gall of these {Insert slurs of any and all stripes here cuz I don't wanna write them out}!"

Very well done and well informed video! I must admit after watching it that my initial post about Urbanspook did feel quite harsh in hindsight. I wasn't exactly trying to do some major "call to action" against his series or rally my community against him, I was moreso just trying to express my confusion as to why a series with such distasteful and poorly handled elements such as CSA was given such high praise despite there being so little there of substance besides it.

If I could go back and rewrite that tweet, I would probably do so in a way that expresses that better and makes it feel less like I was trying to weaponize my audience against a smaller creator. I will take responsibility for that and admit that was very immature of me. I can have my opinions about the guy and BELIEVE ME I DO, but I can keep those opinions to myself or at least present them in a more respectful way in the future.

Thank you for making this video, I feel like this kind of stuff absolutely needs to be talked about so that everyone can learn from it.
