Didn't know about the DC-Band disintegration. I have an archive of such tapes from yore so will take care when imaging them onto "solid state".
BTW: the roller in the centre is in contact with the drive's drive roller. The drive heads push down on the tape behind the flippy cartridge cover, relying on tape tension.

P.S.: Slow SCSI access is often caused by poor bus termination.

Pulling 040's & 060's can make me nervous as they creak out of a socket they have been in for 30 years ...

SysInfo wont get any traction until SetPatch is run - that will kick in caching modes for memory from 68040.library and suddenly you're flying.

Blowing on to the IC is slightly more effective due to the eddy air currents that come off the fan blades, but that setup lacks good air flow in the center where the IC is located.

I'm a 'fan' of blowing the air horizontally across the chip surface. My A1200HD still boots fine with the IDE-44 pin drive.

Missed opportunity for mission impossible tape destruction clip. I have been working on installing this on an emulator to relive the glory days. The 3000ux was the last thing I did before I bought the pentium 75 and went to the dark side to play quake and get a real ip stack.

blowing the heat right back onto the chips doesn't seem to make much sense. it's physics. thermodynamics. carrying the heat away makes much more sense in terms of keeping it cooler.

Does the ZuluSCSI do Tape emulation? I wonder if an image of the tape could be made and then fed into the machine as emulated tape drive?!

I'm sure you've already spotted it, but the A2410 graphics card is currently on eBay... for $800! Yikes! At least the "rare" in the description is accurate this time, unlike most eBay auctions that use the word "rare"... :)

The transition music kinda reminded me a bit of the Beavis & Butt-Head theme song (for some strange reason). Cool. ;-)

I did an AMIX install on UAE using simulated tape files. My UAE setup included a simulated A2410 graphics board for X Windows and it was still slow. Without the 2410 or compatible you're stuck with a command line only version.

Chris is like a machine. He operates on cheeseburgers and beer and his optimal temperature is way above freezing point.

Chris, did you think to make adf's of the AUX floppies and then they will be preserved for posterity and also you could then use a Gotek in the worst case scenario.
No wonder Amiga Unix never caught on. My brothers 2500 also had that Unix option with the 68020 card but he never used it.
Patience seems to be the go for any Unix although today it is as easy as windows and a lot less frustrating and far more secure.
Keep up the great work.

Chris, it's not just the tapes but the drives also melt the pinch rollers. I had to have my drive rollers remade. So when you do test, test with a blank tape first. If you need a drive to use, hit me up and you can borrow mine. I have plenty of Amiga UNIX tapes if your drive does eat your tape.

Typically fans blow out the side with the supports as fans do some compression so the supports blocking some of the output would restrict total volume less. I agree about sucking heat away from a chip vs blowing on the chip. You want more molecular impacts on the source of the heat as those interactions are where the molecules pick up the extra energy from the hot surface of the chip. Since the heat comes from the center of the chip package, and the outside is just to fan out the pins, blowers work better, or a shroud to concentrate the airflow to the center of the package, but a heat sink is a lot easier as it spreads the heat and adds lots of surface area.
