Prolonged emotional abuse and feeling false guilt often go hand in hand.
When we are under the duress of emotional abuse we can become super-critical of ourselves. We end up taking responsibility and blaming ourselves for the behavior and actions of the abuser (the narcissist).
How can we stop? One option is counseling or therapy. We can also work on mindset and boundaries. Guilt journaling can help as well (in situations where therapy is not needed).
As Christians, it helps for us to develop an awareness of what God wants us to do, and this helps to eliminate false guilt.
