Maybe he sent the laptop with a different ssd for testing, and the other ssd with whatever it was important to him, kept it. Probably has Delphi or Autocom software tied to that laptop.

The chip U39 is a dual chip U39A and U39B is the same chip U39.

Customer saved the laptop vecause it is an i7, not an i3. Still nowadays X230F with i7 can be sold more expensive than i3 ones... Or maybe he wanted to have a top-spec one...

could have been caused by the car sending a hv spike but what about cranking the car causing a drop in incoming voltage to below the level of the laptop battery... laptop battery 11v, car cranking can drop to 9, 2v difference 'the wrong way'...laptop battery tries to power the car....low voltage difference but could be a heavy current and flowing in a direction not expected.

A similar issue existed 6-7 years ago with mac books and cheap powered usb hubs, if the mac was turned off, and the cheap hub 'back' supplied 5v into the mac usb port, 5v on a 5v pin sounds ok but the 5v incoming from the port would try to power the mb and fry the current limiting chip on the mb because the current is reversed, something it should never see in normal use.

I thought it would be too old for chip ID and programmed chips, or at least have universal code for all models.
I have a Arduino EFI called Speeduino and I was adjusting the fuel table when I noticed the laptop battery dying. I plugged the car charger in and the EFI grounded through the USB. The laptop was ok, but it blew the EFI.

Great job bro. Lenovo professional series products are awesome. You can drop those (not tablets..) on concrete by accident and they don’t break. For instance the Lenovo t400 series - built like a brick house

Those are great little laptops. Only thing that I’ve seen in the past w those style touch screens is weird ghost keyboard clicks etc from a malfunctioning touch digitizer response integrated display. So it may be worth the effort to look into that, not limited to laptops with touchscreens but also the AIO computers w touchscreen.

Nice repair :)
On this type of model (old Lenovo) the serial and other information as well as the password are marked in an eeprom called 24RF08
(U42 on X230).
Always on top Sorin, once again an excellent video.
Thank you :)

Once again, great video but once again I disagree, those old (IBM) Lenovos were built really well. Structurally a solid machine and very resistant to liquid damage. I've still got an old T410 kicking around in the boot of my car. I use it for site work, networking etc. It's been dropped many times, rained on, covered in building dust and it still works. Amazing engineering. I think the new ones are worse. From a repairers point of view they're just harder to take apart.

Hello Sorin, thanks for the video, some Software can work with some Laptops also when you reinstall the operating system, that means he maybe has a software that only works on this specific laptop with a specific serial number, he just needs to install the software again and activate it.

Not another NOLOVO!!! Performed warranty repairs for over 20 years on multiple major brand laptops. Guess which brand had the worst misdiagnosis by brand support and the most failed replacement parts out of the 3 major non Mac brands. I would guess in this particular case that the end user may want to get his alternator in his car checked. Sounds like he received a surge from vehicle electrical system. I remember when some of those models supposedly had gorilla glass but mysteriously gorilla glass was not available but other companies were getting gorilla glass. Lol.
