497 - Watchtower Elders Given Too Much Power

Winston I was raised in a so-called. I attempted to go back to the organization a couple of years ago.I just want to go and listen to the meetings and leave. I didn't want to be ambushed and ask to study right away I wanted to see what I be able to make the meetings. As luck would have it I was approached by one of the elders before I could leave one Wednesday evening. The brother I spoke to was friendly enough and said I needed to talk to the coordinator just to take my in formation just in case there was an emergency so they could stay in contact. I was introduced to the coordinator and asked right away did I want to have a study I said no. I just want to come to the meetings for a while before I decide or commit to a study.Then he said something that I am still shocked that a man said to my face (by the way I'm a woman.)He said well how can I help you? I explained the other brother said you needed my contact information in case of emergency. He replied " We need to help you from alcoholism, committing adultery or fornication". I was stunned and taken so a back I just stuttered! I blurted out something like a lead a pretty boring and clean life by witness and worldly standards. I felt like my head was spinning I blurted out my information gave it to him and left the kingdom Hall. I never seen or meet this man before in my life! I dress very conservatively, but he judge my as some sort of lose sinner! Sure enough the following Saturday there was two sisters knocking at my door wanting to have a study. I looked through the peephole and went on about my business. Something is definitely wrong with this organization. The focus is too much on sex instead of the love and forgiveness of Jesus!

You don't think petting is a sexual act? I don't think holding people to high moral standards is necessarily a problem. They have a lot of problems but I don't think that is one. A lot of it is cultural. That experience you mentioned about staying with your friend is viewed differently in the US.

They don't want any gorie details. All they would want to know if you had sex or not. In the example you made no judicial case would take place.

It's a cultural thing bro. I know people from Jamaica and things are different. If you stay overnight in America there is a high expectation that you had sex.

They will haul you in front of a judicial committee without any witnesses or proof of “immorality “ but won’t call the police when a child is molested unless there’s two witnesses to the act of violating that child.. Sick!

I remember once having dinner at a restaurant with other JW'S, a newly engaged JW couple came in were seated near our table. We were in shock because there was no chaperon. We also wondered if they came in separate cars because that would make it okay. JW'S of the opposite sex weren't allowed to be alone in the same vehicle . If caught, you would have to answer to the elders.

There seems to be a fear of the elders and the scorn from the congregation than from God their creator. Hence they walked the straight n narrow. Fear of the leaders, obligations to the organization and guilt of not measuring up to qualify for paradise?

Even in the bed room with marriage couples elders tell them what they can do regards sex , it's so insane the power and control elders have over j dubs , mind control and it takes years to set ur self free from this mind control ,even after leaving , of course by adding (God ) in to picture people just go along with this rubbish the fear factor that God will kill u if u don't do as they say , thanks X

So many not only put elders on a pedestal, they are scared of them. I remember when 2 elders came to my house, to try to get me back to the meeting and preaching. I told them I had no intention of doing either, and I would not play their game and write a disassociation letter. I told them that they can't judge me, ONLY Jesus can. I told them not to bother me again. So far so good! They were not happy!

Those clowns usually have zero authority in real life, as their jobs are for the most part mundane with no supervisory role. Therefore, they get a high at the Kingdom Hall where they “think” they have power over the publishers. This is such a pitiful joke! Even when I was in the cult, I never gave these guys any credence with regard to authority over me. I was never a “ladder climber”, so my ascension stopped at Ministerial Servant. OMG, I still can’t believe I was associated with this so called “religion”!

As an unbaptised teen, I innocently helped straightened the tie of my best friends dad when he had a part on the meeting. I was quickly pulled into the 'back room' with an elder and my mother after the meeting to discuss my loose conduct and sexual flirting. According to them straightening his tie was a sexual flirtation on my part and I was touching him in an intimate way. JW have to much interest in controlling people's lives and unhealthy interest in turning innocent things sexual.

This is actually really funny. Watchtower tries to micro manage everyone. The elders feel that they can inquire anything from anyone at anytime. They feel that they have every right to do so. When I was a Jehovah witness I wouldn't allow that kind of questioning. They asked but I would give them ridiculous answers. They would act so serious. Like it was so important, when it was so trivial. If I would have asked them a personal question they would have been insulted. Yet, they think that they can pry into your affairs anytime they want. Why do you ask? Was a question that I would many times answer with. It seemed to throw them off. Not always, but sometimes. A normal worldly person would be embarrassed to ask some of the personal questions that they would ask.

I find the elders in those videos so sinister, and I think they are intentionally so. There is always a dark undertone.

But if it question about child abuse, child needs evidence or witnesses. And although she have these, the elders are blaming children.

Winston of Watchtower Examination, you mentioned that ones could get "disfellowshipped" for six months, the reality is the the norm is ONE YEAR OR MORE! Anything less than "disfellowshipping" would be called either "Private Reproof" or "PUBLIC Reproof" but those CAN associate with others. ONLY "Disfellowshipped" ones can not "associate" with others. It is really WORSE than you know!!!

Sadly, this occurs in many situations, and happens all too often within congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Mr. Winston, if you were a Jehovah’s Witness, I don’t think the elders would believe your “story.” They would not think your reasons for spending the two nights with your “ best friend” are “valid.”
By the time they get finished questioning you, you would’ve confessed to every sin you’ve ever committed, every sin you’re committing, and every sin you will commit. But let’s be fair, if you told ten people that story, how many, do you think would believe you?
That’s how I think the elders would act, fleshly! We’re talking about men who are “supposedly” appointed by the Holy Spirit, based on what they think/feel. Let’s face it! They have a “ rule book” that was given to them, written by men,/GB, who are “not inspired.” How can they make spiritual decisions based on “false doctrines?” Just Saying!

My wife and I were once told by an elders wife we should not be putting our arm around each other whilst singing the songs say the meetings. At that point we had been married for 30 years.

and if they do have sex why do the elders ask where who touched who, did it feel good, did you ejaculate or a woman cum, Did you have oral sex, how many times did you do it and on and on. That sounds sick to me. If you did it that should be all they need to know. Sounds like they get off on hearing it. Winston I totally agree with you on this one. I remember in my Judicial Committe the 4 elders were asking me so many questions I could not keep up. The head elder told me I sinned against Jehovah and made me feel soooooo bad. I did not even commit fornication but was sexual with the girl. I was only 21 years old at the time a year after I got baptized. I was so scared because those elders in my hall would disfellowship or public reprove people at a drop of a hat. My best friend who got baptized the same day I did at a circuit assembly got publicly reproved and then disfellowshipped 6 months after we were baptized. I guess they felt sorry for me because I was shaking like a leaf in the meeting so they just told me to be careful and go out in field service more. I got home and started crying like a baby and thanking Jehovah that I did not get disfellowshipped or publicly reproved or silently reproved. A couple of years after that i just moved to another town and faded away.

Thank you Winston; Now, would you like to put your self in the place of a female--- female children have to grow up learning that they are guilty of being female because Eve needed to be punished, women are 'no good', right from the start, so we children of the jw zealots, female children (especially), were set up for failure -- needed to be gone. I remember watching "Remember the wife of Lot" video when it was released at a convention. I was still fully PIMI but was terribly uncomfortable through the whole thing.
