ОтветитьKnown to his few friends as "William the Bastard"
ОтветитьYou're a gifted historian and narrator. You also have a beautiful voice and clear pronunciation. Thank you so much.
ОтветитьWas he just a bastard, or a "mamzer"...?
ОтветитьFinally an authentic non ai history channel, god speed brother
ОтветитьPity about the US pronunciation which jars. Otherwise the content is good.
ОтветитьAwesome Channel, please keep going
ОтветитьThey don't mention the viking decent. The ruler of Normandy was a viking called Rollo.
The Normand conquest was because tge viking constant invasion of Wessex and were weakened by these wars and William used that weakness and attacked and killed king Alfred the great

It's surprising how many Brits don't realize that the castles were built to suppress rebellion. It's never too late to rout out the invaders.
ОтветитьFascinating but too much music.

ОтветитьStupid Flanders. Doh!!
ОтветитьBump
ОтветитьGood video but just a little comment : you keep giving the impression that the kingdom of France exists side to side with Flanders, Normandy, Brittany. It’s so on the map and in the voice over comments.
WHEREAS actually the various duchies of Flanders and Brittany, the county of Flanders were part of the Kingdom of France, albeit the executive and judiciary powers of the King were in practice quite limited in the 11th century outside of the territories he personally owned (feudalism).
This reminds me of the childhood struggles and dangers of other sons of nobility who ended up being very strong rulers.
Ответитьexcelent work doing this vídeo, thank you for make it exist, nice. See things like this give me hope about humanity.
ОтветитьMy ancestor was Ilbert De Lacy that fought with Willam. Later given the West Riding and started Pontefract castle. You did an excellent job with this story and earned a new subscriber, looking forward to watching your channel grow.
ОтветитьIsnt the picture of Henry the first of France, a picture of Henry the first of England. Williams son
ОтветитьFantastically detailed documentary of William The Conqueror. This is the most I've thus far learned about the historically impactful figure. I do have a question and an extra bit of "fun-fact" trivia:
Q: Didn't one of William's sons drown during a boating voyage accident while returning to England from France, or was that one of William's grandsons?
FF: In the 1951, Disney animated film adaptation of "Alice In Wonderland," at the beginning of the story, when Alice is receiving a history lesson from her sister, the history lesson that Alice's sister is reading is about William The Conqueror. (I am unaware of whether or not this scenario was a part of the original Carol Lewis novel, but it is the scenario in the Disney adaptation.)
I came, I saw, I liked, and SUBBED! 👍
ОтветитьNew subscriber I really enjoyed the video!👍🏼
ОтветитьIs a transcript of t😊he Domesday Book not now available online?
ОтветитьThank you for pointing out the Cluniac Reform movement
ОтветитьHe was born as the son of the Duke of Normandy...yes he was illegitimate, but a "nobody?"
ОтветитьHe also unintentionally set in motion the end of slavery by taxing slave owners in Britain for every slave they enslave they had to pay a fine to him which was written in the doomsday book and used centuries later to convince the courts that they could tax slave owners globally and bring an end to slavery in the process
ОтветитьÉtonnante Revanche de l'Histoire : c'est finalement l'Anglais qui devint La langue mondiale (mais imbibée de Français : tennis=tenez!).😊
ОтветитьWorst thing that happened to these islands, not only England.
Ответить"...he saw Harold's coronation as an outright betrayal of a sacred oath..." That's probably because it was a betrayal of an oath sworn on sacred objects. Excellent job, though. Very glad it popped up in my queue.
ОтветитьNative aristocracy? The Anglo-Saxon were never the rightful owners of Britain.
They conquered it or were invited by local kings and decided they wanted the land for themselves.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
ОтветитьWhat a great channel - I wish you success with your channel.
One thing not often mentioned - is that William the Conqueror gradually stamped out slavery (Churls) across England.
Under the Anglo-Saxon rule - people captured as a consequence of local conflicts, debt or poverty - were often forced into slavery.
William gradually put an end to such slavery - even though it still existed in areas outside his immediate control such as Wales & Scotland.
Blessed and given his personal banner by the then Pope Alexander II to lead the invasion of a free country and anoineted King.
Completely changed the course of English history.
This man will be forever known in the North as that bastard William.
We salute the bravery & patriotism of our true warrior king Harold Godwinson.
As a direct result of William’s invasion, Great Brittan adopted a strict policy to never allow foreigners to conquer the country.
ОтветитьThank you!
ОтветитьNorman Yoke =
= It's the Descendants of That Bastard That Still Dictate Over the U.K. Today.
