You talk too damn fast.
ОтветитьLord Luv't*, not *L'vatt
ОтветитьThere’s a lot of talk of Pvt. Pyles physical condition and mental condition exempting him sadly untrue. Rodent McNamara pumped up draft enrollment in the war by relaxing standards criminally. These people where called McNamara’s Morons and it was almost a death sentence. It was called Project 100,000 and the death rate for these men ran 3 times higher than normal. DUH
ОтветитьComparing the newer Last of the mohicans to the Randolph Scott B&W version is interesting.
ОтветитьThe DI was not played over the top. You kids are soft, way soft.
That's the way my Drill Sergeants ran our Basic Training.
They were 101st, Combat Vets Drill Sgt. Perez was at The Battle of Khe Sanh and spent any Free Training time teaching us how to survive combat, improvised emergency first aid. That's using cigarette plastic wrap to stop a sucking chest wound. Or a Bic Pen and a bayonet to open an airway and the like.
So, You kids say that This MARINE Drill Instructor was a bully?
He had 8 weeks to turn hippies into soldiers so they don't get massacred first day in Country of a shooting war.
Like I said, you kids are SOFT.
So go away now, ye bother me.
The childbirth scene in a Sherman tank in The Big Red One was the most authentic part as the Sherman was designed for just such a situation
ОтветитьWhy is it insane? I am extremely sick and tired of people incorrectly using this word "insane". If you are going to present good content be good in your use of the language. I'm going to give you a thumbs down next time you use it.
ОтветитьNice video. I have watched many of these films, but the next time I watch them, I'll watch for these details. Also, many of the comments below by bets and movie people are really interesting.
Ответитьi call b/s on bullets from firing line as you get a tray of 10 and all the brass holes must be turned in before you get up with the string of fire ..
ОтветитьThe problem with, "WE WERE SOLDIERS" is, it starts the story in the 1950's with the Vietnamese kicking the French's asses, as justification for the USA needing to intervene...
This is what was factually left out, and almost always is!
There's the WWII Greatest Generation...then there's the next duped generation!
The Viet-wrong War.
When the USA fought to deny the Freedom from Post-WWII French control which US President Franklin D. Roosevelt promised them would stop for helping defeat the Japanese in WWII, but he died before WWII ended to make good on the deal; and President Truman took over and renegaded on the deal to entice France to join NATO.
When WWII ended, Ho Chi Minh was so thrilled that Vietnam would finally be a free country, that he read the American's 1776 Declaration of Independance to the People over loud speakers, declaring that Vietnam was now Independant like that too!
"STOPPING COMMUNISM FROM SPREADING", was a big lie. The Gulf of Tomkin incident to justify attacking Vietnam was a big lie!
If you are in a lifeboat (or maybe a bus, or train trapped in a snow storm) unknown when you're being "rescued", someone takes charge, then consolidates resources from people (no longer their bag of cheese burgers, bottles of water, extra clothing, etc - now communal property) and evenly distributes them to give everyone an equal chance to survive scenerio - that's communism. That's the kind of communism Vietnam was forced to adopt in order for it's people to survive after so many centuries of being exploited by foreigners!
So, they fought back from any further foreign control, just like the American Colonist did to the British and their German Hessian mercenaries! Like Ukraine is doing now against Russia and Wagner mercinary group.
So, from 1940 against the Japanese to 1975 against the French, US (ACTING LIKE MERCENARIES FOR THE FRENCH), and all others who joined in, the Vietnamese fought to be FREE! Did they get supplies from other Communist countries to do it, hell yeah, when it's the only suppier available, your enemies - ememy, do it! You know, like how the American Colonist got help from Britians' enemy, the French!
Since 1975, Vietnam's Independance from having their natural resources exploited (i.e.: rubber by French Michelin Company), and their people able to fairly profit from their labor, they have grown to be the 8th fastest growing capitolistic economy, moving out of "survival mode" to privatizing, individual ownership, FREEDOM! You know, like the Western world enjoys.
If the USA just treated Vietnam after WWII, like they did European Countries with aid in order to recover, and build on their newly aquired independance, 50,000 Americans wouldn't have died wastefully, and 150,000 not maimed for life, and million of Vietnames not murdered by Western Aggression to keep them capitolistic slaves!
How else can you explain the fighting spirit of a poor society, to carry on the fight for 35 years? A fight for Freedom, is the only one that makes sense!
The moral of the story is, if a politician makes up a reason for Americans to get killed, dig deeper to figure out if the real motive is to make someone richer, and someone a slave, and ignorant Americans sacrificial pawns! That's why, if there's a draft, no one should be exempt from participating, no college deferments, no Senator's son ineligable, etc..when everyone has skin in the game, the right questions and answers as to why fight will be determined!
So, it's shameful that so many Americans got fooled into fighting in the VIET-Wrong War. But, at least the Veterans can go to the VA now, and many products to help them (special after surgery shoes, etc) are made in Vietnam - a US Government Vendor!
So, I guess we are finally helping them thrive that way!
So, Jane Fonda and all the rest of the protestors ("4 dead in Ohio") of the 1960s and 1970s, helped do the world a favor, but hrlping end this stupid war...but many Veterans blame the likes of her, and the country for not supporting them to win, when it was really the Vietnamese's fighting for freedom spirit that beat them!
When I see Vietnam Veterans, I feel sorry for them, for being duped into fighting that VIET-Wrong War.
And, all those Christian Crusader Armies commisstioned by the Holy Roman Christian Catholic Vatican to capture the middle east - pretty much other Christian-Wrong wars too! Look up the " Rhineland Massacre" if you don't believe me! But, let's not stop there, then there's Biblical Hero, Go's chosen Isrelite/Jew warrior Joshua, who on orders from God, wipedout Jericho - killed more babies then any abortion doctor today, and children, women, the men; captured virgin girls for his men to use as sex slaves...because, GOD IS LOVE!😢 And no one, asked any questions about GOD'S will!😮
In fact, King James bible Ishaiah 45:7, God confesses to creating "Evil"...must have saved that for his 8th day of creation they conviently left out of the Genesis story, eh! Inventing evil war and cancer too, I bet!
Hopefully, a "WOKE " America will learn, and avoid these kind of mistakes from the past from happening again?
"We tolerate no one in our ranks who critisizes Christianity. Our movement is Christian." - Oct 27, 1923 by, raised a nice little Holy Roman Christian Catholic Alterboy - Adolph Hitler, who silently partnered up with the Vatican to finally solve tgeir centuries old Jewish competition for power and wealth - Problem!
So, don't trust old religion either. They are quite capable of being evil.
"If you can convince people of absurdities, you can convince them to commit atrocities." - Voltaire
1096 AD Rhineland Massacre
Dark Ages Inquisitions to find, and make torturious execution examples of non-Catholics.
All the Crusade Armies.
Purital Pilgrims
Confederates, God given authority to be slave owners in their Constitution.
KKK
HOLOCAUST
McCarthyism
Vietnam War
Now MAGA, fascist leaning politics, and attempted Coup of US Government, Neo-Nazi, Evangelican, and KKK supported! These are not your daddy's, Grandaddy's, or any past Daddy's Republicans who cared about Americam freedom, the Republican Party has been hijacked, and wants totalerian (dictatorship) control over Ametica, for their own selfish reasons!
Starting 2024, vote the fascist now, Republican Party - into extinction, as a peaceful way to prevent other Viet-Wrong wars from happening, along with future Insurrections like Jan 6th, and threatening - FREEDOM! ❤ Freedom!
Fight to "Liberate the Oppressed" ( US ARMY SPECIAL FORCES, "GREEN BERET'S" unit motto), not to Oppress others!
"Just because someone else gains rights you've always had, does not make you oppressed"!😮
"That's the truth they don't want you to know" - A.J.
But, "Now you know the rest of the story" - Paul Harvey!
By Dave Pflanz, retired "Green Beret" Airborne/Infantryman/Medic, and Senior Helicopter Aviator, x2 wars combat Veteran. Keeping it real!
Vote for me 2040, "This is the way" - Mandalorian.
I can never figure out why people throw themselves on top of granades about to explode...getting themselves killed.
I mean, if a bear is chasing you and a buddy, instead of stopping to let the bear catch you, and the other guy get away - wouldn't you trip the other guy, and keep on running yourself?
Throw the other guy on top of the grenade, eh, let him die for his country, and get a medal postumeliously!
Just say'n.
All's fair in foot races from a bear, and war!
the longest day is the best dday movie ever
Ответитьanything is possible in the real thing,,non servers cant understand or give a damn anyway,,,like how many wore the useless flak jackets in viet,,i sat on mine when driving ,,you want to talk about details,,,How many gallons of water did it take to fill the swimming pools for those behind the wire at the long Bien MacV complex in 3 corps Viet????,,while us other types, 1st Inf div,,,,looked in once in awhile thru the wire,,before we went back to the crap????,,,or did the lifeguards at the Vung Tau beaches get the same "combat pay " $12.50 a week that we did,,?
ОтветитьFor My money, FMJ wasn't all that good. I strongly doubt the suicide could have taken place as depicted. And in the retaking of Hue, No infantry unit would have assaulted that sniper position frontally, it just would not have happened. A fantasy....
Ответитьbruuuh private rian is sooo insanely accurate with their shooting iside tank thru drivers hatch which in reality has very thick bullet proof glass in it
Ответитьso we are just ignoring the german m51 tanks in 1943??
ОтветитьGIs heard that strapping their chins to their manganese-steel M1 helmet would make their head pop back and their neck snap amid artillery bursts or close, upward explosions. They thought the force combined with the weight of the helmet was enough to pop them right off. And NOW you know...
Ответитьi wouldn't say that last one was a war detail, that just biology
ОтветитьNo mention of the "Sherman" Panzer's 🤣
ОтветитьPronounce the names right , doughnut
ОтветитьToo used to seeing woody Harrelson playing of Woody the barman in cheers to take seriously in a war movie
ОтветитьStaff Sergeant Daryl C (Shifty) Powers from band of brothers took out a German sniper after the battle of Foy just as his mates were getting picked off. German sniper was positioned in a barn & teased by 1st sgt. Lipton to fire upon him. Only then did shifty see the glint of sunshine on the Germans scope, shifty shot him through the scope….a shot that he doubted he could achieve
ОтветитьVol Upham was a dirty coward…. Saving Private Ryan is on Film4 tonight 9pm UK time
Ответить"Pile" is spelled "Pyle," a reference to Gomer Pyle, USMC.
ОтветитьDrill Instructor Hartman.
ОтветитьI was under the impression that U.S. soldiers did not "do up" the chin strap on their helmets was not due to the fear of a bullet strike "breaking their necks" as stated in the video, but more likely because of the real fear of a close up explosion. The force of a ground burst detonation would be amplified by the helmet and contained by the strap if it was done up, so the helmets were worn loose in order to prevent broken necks.
I cannot verify if either of these theories were true...a comment from someone who has practical experience or spoke with someone from that era would be appreciated.
Lone survivor and the book has been proven to be totally not true to events. Just a propaganda film.
ОтветитьFun fact, FMJ was actually filmed at RAF Bassinbourn in England (later ATR Bassinbourn - Army training regiment). I did my British Army training here and the barrack room in the movie was our training wing. You’ll notice as they March around the camp the road markings are all British. The outdoor training in the movie was also the airfoeld where B17’s flew from during WW2.

ОтветитьThe umbrella thing suddenly made me think of Sean Connery taking out an airplane with an umbrella by using to spook a flock of birds in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.
My dad met and got to know Sean Connery a bit, back in the day on the set of The Untouchables. My dad was a paramedic on the Chicago Fire Department, and after retired he got a job with Chicago’s local Motion Picture Union as a film set emergency medic. Worked on everything filmed in Chicago in the late 80’s and all through the 90’s. While working on The Untouchables, Sean Connery had an exploding fake blood pack blow up right in his face. His whole neck was burned pretty bad. While rendering first aid, seeing how bad it was, my dad said he really needs to be taken to a hospital. The director Brian De Palma wanted to keep shooting and finish the scene, and told my dad to just patch him up and get him back to work. This is Sean Connery they were arguing over, 007, are you kidding me? My dad was like, no, this man needs to go to a hospital, I’m taking him to a hospital. De Palma was pissed. It’s funny because I’ve actually seen interviews with Brian De Palma talking about The Untouchables, and I’ve seen him bring this up and gripe about having to stop production over this multiple times, down playing how serious the situation really was. At the hospital my dad knew people who worked there from his time on the Fire Department, and now here he comes walking in with Sean f—-ing Connery. My dad didn’t always get his name in the end credits of movies he worked on, but a lot of people were getting hurt during this one, so he definitely got his name in the end credits of The Untouchables.
wonder how they did the eye trick..i pray it wasent drug induced truly amazing really given the time of detail
ОтветитьOther then the general unreality of any war movie scenes in comparison with the real thing, the universal incorrect aspect of virtually every war movie is the depicted age of the combatants. Typically, the actors are DECADES older than actual combatants. In the longest day, John Wayne was more than 20 years older than the actual office he was playing. The average age of my rifle platoon in Vietnam was probably 21- 22; the "old guy" was 27.
ОтветитьHartman was in no way a psycho. He was doing his job. He was killed before he could really lean into the 'loving father' role that the best drill instructors will adopt when the recruits have proven themselves capable of dealing with extreme treatment.
ОтветитьI want to add another very realistic portion that I found in the movie Saving Private Ryan. In the later scene we're the Ryan and the squids are preparing for the battle at the town. The machine gunner in the tower is using what's called a headspace and timing gage to conduct headspace and timing checks in the browning 1919 machine gun in the tower. This is a standardized check conducted before firing either the M1919 or the M2 50cal machine guns, that measures the distance between the closed bolt face and chamber/barrel of the machine gun, and determines when the next round is ignited during automatic fire. As a weapons expert, I thought this was an outstanding addition to the film.
ОтветитьAs flawed as Braveheart is, there’s one great blink and you’ll miss line, when the future Edward II mentions the English are bringing up welsh archers. Just prior to Englands attempts to conquer Scotland, England worked hard at conquering Wales, only to hampered by Wales excellent archers. These were the longbow men, and England quickly adopted them into there army.
ОтветитьWayne is amongst that very particular group of actors - every character he played was John Wayne (a deeply unpleasant character).
ОтветитьThe helmet story was the fear of an explosion happening nearby would break your neck or at least cause an injury not being hit by a bullet my father a ww2 veteran related this story many years ago
ОтветитьIn reality, if that grenade exploded on that soldier's hip like it did in the movie, he would have been turned into giblets and spread over a 10 meter radius. Instantly. There would only be hamburger left. He would not just have a bleeding hole on his side and be alive and talking for a few minutes.
ОтветитьNo one has they're weapon the night before they graduate from boot camp, it is turned in to the armory days before the ceremony.... just sayin '
ОтветитьFor as much as I love "The Last of the Mohicans", I'm an even bigger fan of the prequel, "The Penultimate Mohican".
ОтветитьH ow get a jelly donut in
ОтветитьKiestef it?!!
Ответить@whatculture ... the big red 1 is half of joint task force 1 ... the american and Canadian unit was made to be a commando assault unit ... get your facts correct ... the Canadian Half of the unit was made up of Princess Patricia's Light Infantry and some from the Royal Canadian Regiment ... as well as many convicted american soldiers of various bad deeds ...
at least get your HISTORY correct ... because the big red one would never have existed without the Canadians
How do you omit Come and See?
