I bought the Redwing logger. They’re heavy AF and the tongue isn’t as soft as it should be. I’m very disappointed.

Picked up the 8-inch work boot and the craftsman boot. They are very good quality. Actually, the same boot with just different heights and soles. Only thing I noticed is width seems slightly wider than a normal D width. Some slight heel slip. Just put in some thin inserts for now. Comfortable out of the box. The regular leather ones do come with some sort of coating over the leather. Got a pair of the craftsman ones from Bakers Boots that were 100 dollars off due to some minor scuffing on the fronts. Got them and one place looked like a tear in the leather, but it was just whatever they are coating them with. Just came right off with the leather being fine.

I bought a pair of these for California fire season (I would be doing GIS, not actual fire fighting so white cross is probably fine for me)

They said 12 weeks lead and came in 2 weeks. They are more rough and more gray brown rough out, which I prefer.

But wanted to say Drew’s took your suggestion and the top is an eyelet (despite the website still having speed hook at the top).

They are awesome and super happy with them, can’t wait until I have another 100 hours break in and can hike in them here in CA in the Sierras.

I'm looking for a boot that's more for walking on varying terrain. I'm from Georgia so it's hot, hot, hot. I'm a gas guy so I'm on job sites, apartment buildings and sidewalks mostly. Need to be steel toe. I like the idea of these but don't need all that heel. Any suggestions? Redwing mock toe tread is too slick.

Hi carl. Could you do a comparison between these Drew's and the Franks Patriot. I am wanting a pair of PNW boots but I live in the UK, so carriage and tax is going to make an expensive boot considerably more!! Comparing both the "budget" options would be so helpful as I have never met anyone that has even seen these boots, let alone tried them on myself.
Thank you very much

I bought my 4th pair of Thorogoods recently. They were the only loggers at that price point that I found, union made with a steel toe. Now I know about Drews, around the same price, and apparently they offer steel toe. I would have tried them this time around but will have to wait for a year or so.
Thanks for the info!

Personal review here:

They have amazing build quality and Drews logger last is amazing with its arch support and toe room. The arch is at the perfect spot under my foot, my toes have just enough room, and the balls of my feet are at the perfect spot of the boot.

The downside for me, their unique gimmick of a high instep works against me. My feet are always sliding, floating up and down, and the leather around the instep bunches up a lot more compared to other PNW boots. I haven't seen anybody complain about that aspect so I'm probably in the minority for that.

I brought mine just arrived a bit of a let down the stitching has been missed/popped on most of the right toebox and the nap is so uneven compared to the left boot. Have reached out to Drews, was so ready to hit the trials. I'm not annoyed just shocked they were paired up together think durability shouldn't be affected too much bad they look a wee bit whacky.

Hello Carl Murawski, thx for the videos--very informative. A work shoe worthy of checking out is the Skecher Mariner oxford. It's not a boot, but it's built like a tank. It reminds me of an oxford logging boot. Very affordable and tough. These shoes will probably be more comfortable to most with a good insole insert. Price range about $70. Check them out.

I wore out four pairs of Wesco Job Masters when I worked in the woods and lived/worked on the family ranch in Montana. I have one pair of Job Masters left that I wear when I cut firewood or work in my woodyard. For my feet, I can't imagine a better boot, and I always liked the way the Wesco boots held their shape until utterly destroyed. I'd recommend them to anyone who packs a chainsaw or climbs telephone poles.

What about the redwing logger max? They’re 275, same design just a lot cheaper. If you could compare those with Drew’s it would be great! Maybe make a logger boots comparison video with the cheapest to the most expensive, in the market. Maybe rank them from worst to best? and/or best for the buck.

let's be honest they offer these boots for "only" $350 because the cost of the materials is nowhere near $350 so they are probably still making a really good profit off of these. The same can be said for White's, Nick's etc. These PNW boot companies are maybe using $75 worth of materials since they are buying in bulk and then charging the consumer $350-$700 and making HUGE profits. I know they have to pay their workers though and I know these are American companies with good wages but at the end of the day I'm guessing they are profiting probably 20% on each pair sold after payroll.

I have met more people who buy these $500 dollar big logger boots and have the whole sales pitch memorized to parrot, but basically nobody actually ever gets them resoled. They all just end up getting different boots, because most people are buying them for aesthetic and bragging rights. Id say well over 50% of people who think they need boots like this dont, and it actually doesnt make much sense for them.

I beg to diffet with your review.
I don't care how long I live I'll never pay $350-$450 for an off-the-rack pair of boots, period. IF I'm going to pay that much for a boot I'll throw in another $100 for a hand made custom boot that ill have a hard te wearing out. And for that much, I'll have a made in America boot that the maker will stand behind. I'm old now and the chance that I'll wear out a pair of boots is slim but I live in the mountains and still travel a lot of miles on foot over uneven terrain. I had a pair of White's built a couple years ago and I KNOW that if I live to 100 they'll stand behind their boot! THAT'S what you get by buying American made. When your Drew's don't fit right or start coming apart you try taking them back...
For an off-the-rack boot I've discovered late in life Irish Setter boots by Red Wing. The elk hunter boots (uninsulated) are the best, sturdiest, lightest, Goretex boot ive found, and if you shop around you can easily find them for under $200. That means you can have a spare pair to rotate out and make them last 3 to 4 times as long. I've worn my uninsulated pair in temps as low as -20 and snow 18"-20" all day and had warm, dry feet at the end of the day. Cannot recommend them enough. I wore Danners for 40 yrs and didn't buy Red Wing or Irish Setter because I thought they were too expensive. Well now the tables have turned, you Danner fans take a look. But keep it quiet because if word gets out the price will skyrocket 🤫
