Turning your problems in your enemy's problems.
ОтветитьCan you do a video on the good and bad of horse chainmail
ОтветитьDidn’t the romans also utilize tactics that would reduce battle casualties?
So it’s neat that they were also taking care of the men to an extent, and not just throwing them into a meat grinder.
I can only assume Army recruitment hasn't changed much since then🤣
ОтветитьIt's a matter of human nature that some % of your population are going to be drawn to, uhm, lets call them, somewhat more violent modes of conflict resolution. Finding constructive outlets for people of that emotional leaning is a pretty good idea if you can. That or lots of therapy. Maybe both.
Ответить2 birds, one gladius. 🔥🔥🔥✍️✍️✍️
ОтветитьA standing army is just a jobs program when you're not fighting a war
ОтветитьIf the army, marines, or navy disbanded we'd have more problems than just a lack of defense.
ОтветитьHaving a standing military establishment also made expanding your military in times of emergency much easier as the logistical and training establishments necessary to do so are already in place.
ОтветитьVery smart tactic
ОтветитьWell yeah I bet if they were sitting it wouldn’t have gone so well
ОтветитьYea can we please do this again, allow felons to serve dumbebies
ОтветитьIt worked until the generals of that standing army made grabs for power, then they used those highly trained and loyal would-be bandits to start civil wars. This was especially the case as the Republic reached its later years, which was one contributing factor in Rome turning into an empire. It also didn't really stop some of the barbarians from causing enough mayhem to require military responses. All that said, yes, it did reduce banditry and the number of rebellions, but the rebellions that came about from it also involved Roman veterans fighting each other out of loyalty to their generals before loyalty to Rome itself.
ОтветитьCan you do the pro's and con's between a standing, and reclining military
ОтветитьDO NOT LOOK UP TWO GIRLS ONE GLADIUS
ОтветитьThey also had towns just made up of soldiers and their families. Wish the US did this. Soldiers go to war and build the strongest bonds of their life's- just to go home and live with people who don't know what they had to deal with.
ОтветитьCorrect as well, professional drilled and ready assembly for military campaigns.
Compare medieval European, there nobility sons who had no land to inherit, because primogeniture laws. Ending up either hired swordsman or bandits.
The first crusade had as well, "2 bird one stone" affect. With many landless sons, had the opportunity to seek fortune in the holy land.
Off topic, but I love those anthropromorphic visors. It's a pity they aren't represented as much in media.
Ответитьwhy this fall out of use in the (early) middle ages? where medieval states incapable of maintaining a standing military?
ОтветитьDidn't Rome have a civil war every five years or so for its entire existence?
Ответить“Two birds one… Gladius” this is why I absolutely love your videos.
ОтветитьYeah.. they just had to be okay with killing innocent farmers and civilians.
ОтветитьYeah you gotta pay those guys tho and equip them. Probably worked out fine in the end with no issues.
ОтветитьI didn’t think of this before. This explains why the US standing military grew as it did.
ОтветитьI'm glad there was a standing Army around to keep me from banditry and rebellion.
Ответитьthey still turned to banditry and rebellion not infrequently. we just call it 'civil wars'.
