Old fridges with latch handles are death traps since if the door slammed shut while you were inside you cannot get out and will eventually suffocate due to they cannot be opened from the inside. A lot of kids in the 1950s actually died due to hiding in old discarded fridges so Butters is actually lucky he got out.
