Almost 40 years later, and America still has only ONE lady that has run faster, and that was only once (Sanya Richards - 48.70) than Brisco-Hooks (48.83) or Cheeseborough (49.05). Pathetic.

She was beaten easily by world record holder Kratochvilova when they met that year over 400, Koch beat her comfortably over 200.

Valerie Brisco-Hooks was one of the biggest "scientific experiments" in track history along Marita Koch, Kratochvilova, Florence Grifith-Joyner, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Carl Lewis! She came out of nowhere in the 80's and destroyed everybody in the field for a brief time and then her results dropped massively very suddenly. She is still one of only 4 sub-11, sub-22 and sub-49 woman in history! Not even Allyson Felix several decades later through an almost 20 year-career was able to achieve those insane times that Brisco-Hooks achieved through 1984-1986.

48.8 so fast. Let's assume all clean..but alot real lot of drug cover up back in 84. Wonder who is chemically enhanced in this race. I've always been a fan of these ladies. Especially Chandra the unsung hero. She could run every Sprint 🌎 world class... Remember watching this very race in the stands.... 80's a big drug ped decade...Not everyone of course but many of the 🤩 stars Doping Back then. You can tell how their times drop precipitously from one year to the next.. especially an Olympic yr....They go from average to great almost over night....Too bad they Couldn't run against the Marita Koch WR Steroid queen..all those soviets and East Germans..then they all disappear after random drug testing introduced in 89..Now we got a bunch 35 and 40 yr old Sprint records than no one can get that near...
