Your thoughts on standard are pretty much the same as mine. I didn't like how standard had less guard but still had the capability to have columns swinging for 50k+. However, I remembered that the format I prefer - V - wasn't a format that was perfect right off the bat either. My experience with it was never anything as bad as Overdress, and I never had many qualms about it, but perhaps that was just because I started playing more seriously in V with properly built decks (rather than out of the box trial decks in old school VG), so I didn't compare it to anything else.

Going to be honest while I'd love for Thai stride rules as of right now none of the ride downs with exception to HL feel unfair
Thavas has a a really ass first stride so if you just give up the g2 game your better of
Nmds while strong other decks like GB,DI,HL want them to ride down because it shuts of HGs
NLK will hardly every ride down because NLK just wins
The other clans that have ride downs aren't to relevant like novas angels etc

The biggest issue is HL who has access to ride down + cutire + double sister + reindeer no deck beats HL ceiling of it opens cutire(unless you take the 3 decks in the format that hard counter HL but lose to anything else and even then if HL opens sister early enough even those decks scoop) so if they addressed HL and felt like they didn't want to address ride down I'm okay with that however if they want to address ride down and address HL even better
