Toni Tennille Reveals There Was No Deep Connection In Marriage To 'The Captain'

I don't think Toni Tennille gave her fans credit. If they had divorced and continued working together the answer would simply be, "We tried for love, but work better as friends." Would have been accepted.

After meeting them back in the early 1990s when I worked as a sound engineer at the concert hall they were playing, I look back at the interactions and I think Daryl Dragon probably would have been placed somewhere on the Autism Scale these days.

I was very disappointed @ the end of reading the biography of Toni Ternillr and the ways her husband treated her when he was treating her as if she did not exist. He was spending money on things they really did not need but continued to spend. Finally saying the wrong words to her &
she could not take any more of his abuse. She did the right thing & finally divorced him. The only time she came to see him again was when he went peacefully in his sleep & passed on. She was right by his side. I love this lady very much personally & wish her nothing but great success.

It's hard to dispute her when she made a hit song about this very subject.

Very sad to hear this! I loved their show in the 70’s! He was sooo quiet and they seemed like total opposites personality wise. I could not stay with anyone that has no connection with me. You might as well be alone. 🥲🥲

I have no doubt that Captain had Narcissistic personality disorder. Undiagnosed of course, because he would never do therapy. She has a lot of empathic character traits. If you read the book, you will see how in so many ways he was not there. Neglect is a form of abuse. He was absolutely horrible.

Wait..what? I grew up with and loved their music but even as a kid I NEVER thought they had a connection! I thought she was the sweetest and he was a jerk! I gather that's what most fans thought!

Incredibly sad to hear. A beautiful woman with such talent and personality. To waste decades in a relationship that was void of so many rewards she could've shared with another man is heartbreaking.

She turns 85 next May(will be 2025). So this edition of Inside Edition was almost 10 years ago. That means her ex-husband died about 5 years after this aired on TV. Strange is how people respected marriage so much that she didn’t feel loved and stayed for four decades and he didn’t love her yet wouldn’t divorce for those same four decades. Some may say you shouldn’t live in a loveless marriage but there may have been love, just not enough of the spouse to spouse kind of love. Yeah, not the kind of marriage one gets married for. I still wish people tried their best to keep it together. People give up too fast now.

Their marriage was used to make money - just like Sonny & Cher.

In all the interviews I've seen with her she comes off as cold, unfriendly and self-centered.
