As a fellow big, 6 ft tall guitarist I agree with this 100% I got one of those 3” Levi straps (Suede one) like 5 years ago and that was the last time I bought one.
ОтветитьHey Phil, I’ve been using LM products 3 inch straps. They hold up real well, my only problem is I have to modify the length to be shorter.
ОтветитьLate to the party... As a teen in a working band, I used to wear my bass like Page did with his guitar... "Balls Low" :)
ОтветитьI have a Levy's leathers suede strap I got a few years ago it's great. At the time you could order directly from their website now you get directed to Sweetwater or Amazon etc. My issue is previously you could request an extra long strap from them and now you cannot. I do not find any extenders except one black leather Levy's leathers extender listed on any website anywhere. If anyone knows where you can get extenders to match different colors and materials I would love to get a link please.
Ответитьthe Peter Steele strap chain is for men only
ОтветитьFor a beautiful comfortable leather strap, check out Walker & Williams, especially if you need an extra long, padded strap for a heavy guitar or bass. I buy all my straps from them now, partially because of their very reasonable prices for excellently made gear. I use Schaller (however you spell that) locks on my straps, but as I have moved into Fender style gear, I’ve had to either buy more straps or constantly adjust what I have. I could never justify buying more straps, though, (I’m on the large size and need extra long straps) were it not for W&W’s prices..
ОтветитьMONO straps are the best for me
Ответить😎 Thanks Phill 🥸 I’m in SF… I upcycle furniture leather, old worn leather chairs & sofas are dumped on the street. I use the materials to make acoustic guitar head stock straps & the strap extenders …. Just a nice abalone or pearl button … sew it up … good to go ⚓️
ОтветитьHello Phillip! I messaged you on Instagram❤️🎸 I really hope you get it!
Ответитьcan you do some reviews on the Vintage brand guitars? i genuinely feel theyre comparable to lower level Gibsons, im sure youll enjoy their instruments.
ОтветитьI’ve never felt like a guitar was to heavy to play standing.
I’ve only had to use straps to prevent neck dive.
Also, a good quality strap with locks is a must so you don’t drop your guitar.
Here's a tip . When your strap is around the guitar use a tie strap to hold it in place. Works 👍
ОтветитьLove your show. Thank you,the best paul.
ОтветитьL&M make killer straps. Definitely worth checking out.
ОтветитьThat is one cool looking strap.
ОтветитьTip for anyone who needs a really comfy strap: buy a neoprene bass strap. They are basically memory foam and can hold up the heaviest of guitars; they have a wide shoulder part that is super comfortable. They’re not particularly long but it should work for most players.
I had a DC Les Paul special and it was SO neck heavy. The padding was thick and it worked very well.
I bought an anthology full grain leather strap on Amazon. And WOW....! They are amazing!
ОтветитьLove that clip of you playing Phil! You show more of you playing. 🎸🤘🏾
ОтветитьI am the only one who just realized it's Levy's and not Levi's 😂😂
ОтветитьThis video was needed thank you
ОтветитьWhat is the guitar that is second from the right? I can't find it
ОтветитьWhen playing a 335 hollow body , it tilts forward when standing. Any fix for that?
ОтветитьJust got one of the wide leather Levy’s straps. I like it. It really makes the guitar light, but my shoulder and back sweat like crazy.
ОтветитьI've had a Franklin strap for 20 years....love the friggin thing! my other bandmates have the ten dollar shitty straps that just are so uncomfortable. if im playing their guitars ill usually sit down after a while. especially on the bass. if i had the money id buy like 5 to give to everyone lol
ОтветитьAnthology straps are really high quality leather straps. Have to be my favorite.
ОтветитьI've noticed quite a few bass players wear the bass higher than guitar players.
ОтветитьIf you want a leather strap, look for one with a suede back.
ОтветитьI like the 4" Levis padded leather straps on my heavier basses and the red Fender strap on my Strat and Tele .
ОтветитьThats a beautiful Stratocaster Phil. Stunning 😍
ОтветитьI used to think the wider the better. But wide straps always scratched my neck. Then I discovered standard 50mm wide made out of pure cotton and never went back
ОтветитьIt's an important topic I never thought too much about. Thanks for the tips!
ОтветитьThis video is fantastic. Thanks!
ОтветитьSo you know what I did on my Levy's cloth strap, I put one of those padded car seat belt pads on it....NOT the sterling or furry ones but also cloth but just padded. Helpful.
ОтветитьSo maybe i should invest in an actual good quality strap
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьKeys to a strap (IMO): 1) Pressure distribution. Width is important based on the guitar weight. However, too wide can cause pressure on your cartoid artery. 3" single ply leather straps can be cut around the artery area so you retain distribution without the pressure. Until guitars get heavy, no padding is really necessary. 2) Friction. The strap needs a certain amount of friction to keep the neck in place. Again, single ply straps work well for that. Some strap padding is slick, but can be mitigated by roughing it up a bit with sand paper. 3) Adjustability. Being able to get the right height is important. To fine tune height I purchased leather punches so I can put intermediate holes in the tail. I avoid any METAL on my straps to avoid scratches and dings on my instrument. Lastly, you don't need those expensive strap locks. Rubber washer locks work great and only cost $1 each or less.
ОтветитьThis year I got a new guitar, been a Les Paul player for a long time and my current LP’s ascetic called for a leather strap imo. Ive played guitar since I was 5, never had a leather strap until now and I’m 23. After using my padded 3” leather strap I could never use anything else…why did I wait so long?
Better comfort
Looks cooler than any strap I’ve had before it.
Guitar stays in position when I take both hands off because the leather grips my body more than cotton.
Gentleman…I have finally arrived in the future, I was living in a dark, stone age like cotton strap filled world for so long…the horror 😂
I have Levy's straps on all of my guitars with the widest one on the bass. They're great but like you said, easy to max out. I'm not as tall as you are and I don't have much room left to make it longer.
ОтветитьYou mention "there are links for this stuff below..." But there isn't any for the straps.... I took a screen shot of that buckle strap and sent it to Sweetwater and they did not recognize it. Please insert a link so I can buy it. Thanks or reply with the item number.
Ответитьu look like your one of the beatles..they wore their guitars under their chins too
Ответитьso what are the mistakes?
ОтветитьI accidentally ordered a levy padded bass guitar 4.5 inch strap. Would it be a more comfortable option for my charvel super strat? Lol
ОтветитьHate adjusting that slotted strap ,
ОтветитьThank you for this video.
ОтветитьWhy doesn’t every strap have j hooks on the ends that open up and guitars have a round eye as the strap base. It would be so easy not to have these straps fail.
ОтветитьI cant play the guitar that high, if i do my right shoulder get tensed after a while. I play with my right hand quite high up on the bridge to be able to play the lower strings with a relaxed wrist position.
ОтветитьLevy for the win. Only straps i use.
ОтветитьStraplocks are squeeking a lot, too much noice. Just use grohlsch rubber bands
No noice, and the strap will NEVER come loose, never. But once a strap is fitted, it must stay on the guitar forever
