Vocalist Burton Cummings had never played the flute before. They went to a music store, bought a flute, and returned to the studio. He learned how to play the solo and the rest is history.

The story that i Read some time back about this song was that Randy Bachman was at a private party, and he supposedly witnessed a girl having a bad drug trip, and, then she slipped into a coma. Hence The word "ubdun" or, falling apart

I was lucky enough to see Burton Cummings sing this in concert with The Guess Who, after Randy left in November 1970! Flute solo and all He really nailed it!

Randy's intro sets the tone.

This song came out after Art Linkletter's daughter jumped from a building. On 4 October 1969, at 9 a.m. on a Saturday morning, a 20-year-old girl jumped from her kitchen window.
She died in the hospital an hour and a half later from injuries sustained in that fall. She was taking LSD.

Very Uncharacteristic for THE Guess WHO, However I loved it from the first time I heard it!. I knew a Girl who this SONG FITS. She got addicted to HERION, went on a METHADONE PROGRAM, Died from Breast CANCER. She was BEAUTIFUL at one time, Full of INNOCENCE . What a TRAGEDY!
