In mid June 2021 I underwent a total hip replacement surgery in London. I’ve been in constant but growing pain for 10 years, getting worse in the last 2 years and limiting my professional and private life.
I now have a titanium hip, ceramic on ceramic bearings.
Special thanks to my surgeon Miss Sarah Muirhead-Allwood and her team at the London Hip Unit.
After the operation I was bruised, but everything went well and I started to recover fast immediately after. I’ve approached the surgery like I used to do with my kick boxing fights. In the 2 months prior the surgery I’ve focused on losing body fat (-5kg) and improving my cardio. I’ve also worked out everyday at the same time I knew the surgery was scheduled (mid morning).
A part for the luck component and the skills of the surgeon and her team, my preparation to the surgery was a big part of the reason why I recovered fast. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
I treated my recovery and rehab time like a fight. I’ve planned different phases of the process and I have committed daily to it.
I have learnt a lot about myself during the few months to the surgery and I have learnt even more during the rehab phase. I have become a better trainer. And I am a better person as I will be able to connect and empathise more with those who have had a similar surgery.
In this video made of some of my Instastories you can have a glimpse of my rehab and progressions from day 2 to week 15. If you want to see more, check my Highlights on my Instagram page @giacomofarci.
I’m glad I decided to get it sorted. I’m now pain free. I can run and spin high kick again (see end of the video). For me it’s a big thing, because I was born a sprinter and a kicker. Running fast while playing football or any other sport has always been one of my best skills. High kicks, of any kind, were always my preferred strikes.
But in the last 3 years I couldn’t run and I couldn’t kick head height as the bone-on-bone hip pain was just too much to handle.
Since the surgery and throughout the rehab I visualised myself running on the beach & kicking high again. It kept me focused and accountable during the hard moments.
The process:
1. I visualised my main target: sprinting & kicking, pain free.
2. For 2 months I prepared for the surgery, physically, mentally and emotionally.
3. I planned the rehab and I sticked to it.
4. I’ve hit my target.
5. I feel relief, pride, sense of accomplishment.
A client and dear friend recently told me:
“Your recovery is impressive. You are the living proof of your ability to train”
I applied what I’ve learned in 25+ years of career with training thousands of people of any age & any physical ability. I applied my Farci Method on myself with success.
