Are you in the nwp?
ОтветитьI thought the G90 was a low power QRP radio, I'll have to look at it again!
ОтветитьWhat we need is for you to do a General license crash course! And The crowd goes wild!!!!!🙌
ОтветитьDon't tell the baofeng mafia that their UV-5R s are gonna be bricks in a shtf situation. They think repeaters run on pixie dust, thoughts and prayers.....
ОтветитьI mean, how much S is HTF? World war three? I'd choose a QRP HF radio with an end fed.
Hurricane? Earthquake? Tornado? You need a Garmin in reach personal location beacon. No general ticket needed....
how long is that long distance??
ОтветитьIt depends!!
1. What do you consider to be a long distance?
2. What are your expectations?
3. What are your operating conditions.
4. For "shtf" what are you expecting to communicate and to whom and why?
Ft-891 w/ MAT AUTO tuner and 20 amp hour battery, multi-band dipole antenna. All fits in a plastic ammo can and I’ve talked halfway across the world. Lower power consumption versus newer HF radios w/ similar power output.
ОтветитьShtf icom 718
ОтветитьI have both, they are both great radios.
ОтветитьCan’t you talk on hf 28.3 to 28.5 or somewhere around that? Tech license
ОтветитьWhen the skip is good.
ОтветитьI don't want to transmit, only receive, what is the best radio for me?
ОтветитьNo need for general. Plenty of hf available for techs
ОтветитьMy G-90 can bark! Plus it's way more compact then a 7300. Maybe the 891 would also be a good contender.
Ответить991a shack in a box for shtf. The g90 and 7300 are only hf
ОтветитьYaesu ft-891 with LiPo battery is my SHTF Rig, I have 2, one is installed in my truck and one I keep in a go bag with batteries and antenna etc.
ОтветитьOkay then .The Icom 7300 it is .Thanks 😊
ОтветитьStill love my 705 & sure it's not high power but it's extremely practical being light to carry (1.1kg) which not many people really consider if you have to trek with the radio for km to flee a disaster, 160m to 70cm ham band tx coverage, inbuilt GPS, 30khz to 199.999 mhz plus 400-470mhz receive coverage so i can listen to air band, AM/FM broadcast plus it's easy to use & its power draw is low.
Look, whatever suits people's individual requirements but if you have to also lug around a 50W panel, LiPo battery, 230v/120v small inverter etc plus clothes, toiletries plus survival gear its a pretty good deal.
A 100w rig whereas ideal needs a 20A supply plus is much heavier & you're not tx for a QSO or contesting in SHTF, but calling for help or contacting groups of people you trust.
One can keep a 705 & 50-100w amp & only use the amp if really necessary.
Sure the 705 doesn't have a tuner but not a show stopper.
Of course a Xiegu can also suffice but the 705s portability, build quality & simple ops & waterfall to detect weak stations is invaluable during a crisis situation.
Kind of sad our leaders are failing us globally that we even have to raise topics like SHTF, yet in 2023 here we all are
I have a UV-5R it's 12w is that something you could use for similar things??
ОтветитьWhat exactly happens if i dont get my permission slip to access airwaves?
ОтветитьHi Josh, Sean here in Philippines, N7SIX. I saw a photo of you recently from the Hamfest in Orlando with Dr. Jason McDonald, N2TPA, Scout. Awesome!
ОтветитьPerson you want to talk with is going to need a similar setup on the other end. Study for your General together!
ОтветитьI don’t care how long you’ve been a ham or what radios you already own, for when SHTF, nothing made today compared to the Xiegu G90 and a telescopic vertical antenna on a ground spike with some ground radials! Plus you can do the Mod for 27mhz in like 5 minutes, theres a white arrow on the board that points right to it! $439, can’t go wrong! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
ОтветитьAlthough I completely agree with you!
However, it must be said...
Baofeng is best girl!
Agreed. HF is VHF/UHF is dead in a lot of places and for most people the ranges are very limited due to terrain.
ОтветитьWhat about at 6666
Ответить$450 vs $1150? Thanks for narrowing that one down buddy!!!??
ОтветитьAny quality hf rig is best. However for SHTF the antenna matters and should be NVIS
ОтветитьI have had more fun after my upgrade, IMHO for any or that preps, After you get your general then try doing POTA, you will learn more by doing and the skills you learn will benefit you in a SHTF
ОтветитьNice ❤️
Ответитьqrp with a good antenna will beat a qro radio with junk antenna
ОтветитьWhat you need is the right antenna.
ОтветитьCB Skip? ;)
ОтветитьLocation antenna then radio.
ОтветитьAlso consider the used radio market. There are plenty of portable HF radios that are cost-effective, easy on power draw, and well-documented.
ОтветитьI like the Yaesu 991A: it’s portable; puts out 100watts; does HF all the way up to 440MHz; and is really sensitive tuning in weak stations…
ОтветитьXiegu G90
ОтветитьFor all of us taking notes, how do you spell that?
ОтветитьYup, I had no idea all you need is a General for HF! Read the 450 or so questions in the pool a couple times and take the test. I got 34/35
