Here in 2023, and this is still the gold standard of Hendrix tone. I already have a Mesa Mark V that can cover 95% of my needs, and this video alone still makes me want a bassman....

Wait, so this is just a Bassman turned up to 5? No other pedals or reverb? Just the amp gives that marvelous breakup when turned just to 5?? I’ve got a vintage 61 Strat arriving tomorrow. If I could achieve this tone it would be an end to “the search”!

You played a vintage Fender amp optimally. Meaning - Strat neck, dimed volume (crunch) yet big fat open low Es sound and lower register of the neck. SRV/Hendrix are the best ways to demo that magical tone whether BM or BFSR. Yet, hard to find online. Btw, no pedals needed with the amp except maybe clean boost or a BB Pre amp if your doing distortion - IMHO. Will check out more clips.

The best amps are the onez that you simply plug your Guitar into and create a fantastic sound. Played through a few of those old Bassmans , some sound too mushy, some too brittle but yours sings like a "Nightingale". Great job.

I believe Jimi recorded that album with a Fender Twin Reverb so it’s not that far away tonally. Twins from that era are more mid scooped.

Hey, what tubes do you have in that amp? I have a 1959 Fender Bassman re issue and and have been playing it for about 5 years now and I want to see if i can get a tone like that some how. I figure starting with the tubes might be a good start.

I'm building a 4x8 right to either pair with a tweed deluxe or a brown deluxe. A mini bassman i bet would be great but there is no funds for a new amp build at this moment so I'll use what i have. I scored 4 of the Jupiter speakers. I hope i like em!

It's 9 years since I heard this for the first time. I've been around the world and this is still some of the best strat/fender amp tones of all time. Delicious.

Michael Zaite of Dr. Z Amps must have been thinking about this amp when he said: "It's like, no matter how good it is, some guy is going to drag in some dog-eared Bassman and it's going to smoke that amp. Those old Jensen speakers, the way everything has been played for years - it's like an old guitar. It just resonates, it has a sound."
