Four Abhorrent Oculus in UR Murktide! | Modern | MTGO

Yeah, I don't like modern but I like watching your play it. It's one of those things I think is very watchable but just not for me anymore. Is what it is.

If turn 2 Frog on the play is good, what about turn 3 Oculus on the play?

Love some Izzet Murktide, the deck that can satisfy both my playstyle of control, and my clinical need to hit face with big monster.

Do wish Izzet Wizard had a bit more presence, I stopped paying attention to MTG for about 3-4 months so last I saw the evolution of Wizards it was trying Party Thrasher and Unstable Amulet, but it looks like that didn't take.
But seeing people try Crackling Drake is really funny to me for personal reasons, so I might try 1 Arena of Glory and 1-2 Crackling Drakes. It's a card that works well even under most grave hate too. So playing 1 Arena and 1 Drake in a basic build UR Murktide might be interesting to see. Or maybe Drake and Oculus with no Murktide. Though that feels wrong for some reason.


I'm curious if playing a copy of Wolf Run/Rage Pits would be worth it, giving Murktide/Drake Trample so they can't be chump blocked. But that'd require running a Ketria Triome, or a Simic Shock/Surveil land. 2 Land investment to give your big buy Trample for 3 mana (it costs 2, but taps it's self, so 3). Trample is my favorite among the basic keywords, so I'm probably a little biased to it's value.


Essence Flux's seems like an interesting card to brew with in UR Wizard too. It's Blue Cloudshift. 1 Mana to flicker and reuse Snapcaster or Thundertrap seems nice, and Murktide/Drake for basic (kinda bad) protection seems alright too. Both Oculus and Drake would be better in this scenario then Murktide because it won't get weaker and with Drake you would draw a card, acting as a cantrip. But mainly so you can reuse Snappy, or dig through your deck with Thunddy more often at instant speed for 1 mana.
