Reviewing the SJCAM C300 - What's Wrong with This 4K Action Camera?

I bought their 4000 series and I must say for the price it was pretty good, so you get a little more for what you paid for, and if you can't afford or buy a new GoPro then this brand should fulfill your need. I mean they are cheap and I think they are good enough to film your vacation. I rather have this than buy a used GoPro.

SJCAM keep sending you products because you keep reviewing them... They don't care that you criticise their ethics, they know enough people will look past that and buy the camera because it offers enough for the price.

dji pocket 2 cost 3 x more :)

Bought the pocket cam version, in case it helps - my opinion as there are not many reviews in english. fyi it does not come with an sd card. My unit came with the latest firmware dated late march 2024.
By default the device configuration seems to be for a dashcam, not an action camera - hence IQ out of the box is terrible with overly aggressive sharpening using all ‘normal’ settings.
Hence to get the most for action video; set 1080p60 or 1440p30 for optimal IQ (1440p60 stutters), sharpness ’soft’, noise reduction ’low’, EV -1.0, WDR on, distortion correction off, codec h265, WB fixed as appropriate e.g. ‘daylight’, bit rate high, other settings ‘normal’.
Then sharpen and perform noise reduction via post processing in your preferred app. IQ is then quite acceptable for the price of $70.
=> Update - 2.7k appears to be the full sensor frame with 4:3 aspect ratio. Comparing 2k and 1080p samples - believe a 1080p 'window' of the full sensor frame is used. i.e. 2k video is simply 1080p upscaled (at least with image stabilisation). The 2k image however appears superior to 1080p due to a higher bit rate (~13mbps v ~9mbps h265 30fps).
Conclude an imx335 sensor
For sure I won't be buying another Sjcam (-j) product any time soon

Doubt the soc is a NT96660 as this does not support x265, more likely a NT96680 variant which is newer

Its not trying to compete with gopro. Their target customers are people who cant afford gopro.

not mentioned is that the c300 is a bit near sighted, being a talking head type of video focused.

Hello, if we connect this camera to another internet network via wifi, we can see the camera image from a few kilometers away with a smartphone, or the camera must be near the smartphone.
