A troll responded to my original comment about supporting indie authors so I’m going to list some actual human indie authors to support, several of which have written the best books I have read in my life: KJ Charles, Ben Alderson, Kit Vincent, Quinton Li, DN Bryn, RM Virtues, Rafael Nicolás, Kalob Dàniel, Kellen Graves, Ian Haramaki, Piper CJ, Talia Hibbert, Cat Sebastian, Alex Nonymous, Ashley Weiss, and Alli Temple.

All of the authors I have listed are minorities, many who had to self publish their books because the publishing industry didn’t think people wanted to read stories about minorities. Indie authors have my heart ❤

I accidentally bought a classic with an AI generated cover (had to return it) and almost bought a book on mythology completely generated by AI (I was saved by the reviews). It’s so fucking annoying because I love supporting indie authors (especially indie authors trying to educate people about their culture) but now I have to triple check to make sure I’m not buying some AI generated garbage. It’s much more difficult than it was like last year to find actual self-published authors who put actual work into their books and hired actual artists for their covers.

Writing a book with respect for the readers really requires AI these days. What kind of narcissist would consider themselves smart enough to create a product worthy of the consumers just by thinking about it? Or learning how to create art?

In reality us humans are very limited in what we can even conceive of and if we go by traditional modes of creation it will just reflect the handful of experiences we had. Compare this to an AI, tapping into the wealth of creativity of the greatest minds and the lives lived by literally all kinds of people.

I‘d even go so far as to say that writing this comment without an AI is unethical. If an AI wrote this it would really be conceived of by Goethe, Shakespeare, Martin Luther King and Tolkien instead of me. An AI will not waste your time with mediocrity.

That Elon Musk book was like at least less than 300 words, and they still needed to use AI to write it. That is so creatively bankrupt I cannot imagine what type of person could need that

This sounds far more like a case against unregulated self-publishing than AI. Without the muzzle of quality control, the collective public brainrot will flow as freely as a sewage drain. This is the case now and so it was a long time ago.

well, look at non ai content creators that are not manipulative to force someone to edit videos for them, they're in huge disadvantage, maybe ai can edit videos, give some assisting help, and more.

If you got ideas but can't write them... there's literally hundreds of things you could do other than AI, like drawing them, learning to write better, maybe even if you have a friend who can write just be a team where your the idea guy... honestly anything other than computer written slop to sell

As a writer this scares me to the core.
I grew up taking a liking to writing stories - and now today I question about my future in writing.
But then again AI will probably kill itself off.

There was a really interesting episode of Behind the Bastards about this a while back, where they went into further detail about the longer term impacts that this kind of crap can have on kids and their development.
I thought I couldn’t get any angrier about it, but man that Elon Musk book was just sooooo bad.
