Best way to restore land is to just inrcease it's ability to hold water through landscaping, plant a few trees spercely and throw around a lot of indigenous plant seeds. It will regulate itself. Not all lands are suitable for forest growth. A lot of land is better left a grassland with deep root system.
ОтветитьThanks Simon. I really learn a lot from your videos.
ОтветитьCan you please make a video about Ecosia?
Ответить❤❤😊
ОтветитьBill Gates donates money to programs that will have instant success. Like creating water sources for people living in dry poor countries. Heat pumps work very well in desert zones. He uses technology to help people. Let other groups plant trees in places to replace ones that have been cut down.
ОтветитьEver walked through a humid forest on a sunny day??? I don't think these city folk who do all this tree planting do... The ambient heat can be awful!
ОтветитьI've planted a lot of trees, but where i live, the most common amd fastest growing tree has become disised. Saw in bearly 2 years, tens of millions of them just dead, whole forests standing dead. Not one tree alive. The trees grow but, but then they die before they're big. This was the ash tree. I don't see a single one alive over an age limit or size limit. I planted 100 on my property, and i got rid of them, growing them seemed pointless, they are going to go exstint.
ОтветитьOur civilization will never be sustainable. Stop dreaming and coping. Game over
ОтветитьHaving worked in the field for 7 years, the main thing I've learned is that everything to do with land use is vastly more complex than you can possibly imagine.
ОтветитьI invested into The Generation Forrest who buy up degraded farmland in Panama and turn them back into natural rainforest with the goal to sell some of the timber these forest then generate. I think they check every box and if they don't I will lose my investment.
ОтветитьIt´s not a matter of quantity but quality: every single plant matters but certain areas need special/local plants. In northen southamerica, including (obviously) Amazon rainforest, need every single seed these plant can make: every square meter in these places has more biodiversity than a square mile in northern o southern part of the planet.
ОтветитьYour discussion about the albedo of trees is flawed at it's base. The energy absorbed by tree cover isn't immediately returned as heat to the atmosphere. It's stored in chemical energy and used to build matter. The fraction released as radiation is much inferior compared to an equivalent inert surface.
You can't compute living tissue the same way. You need to actually measure the effect and correct for the difference.
My guess is if you measure the IR radiation emmitted from a living tree and compare it for a cover of equivalent estimated albedo, you'll find they're not equivalent and there's a marked difference in the energy returned.
There is a marked difference in ambient temperature measured in cities, when you compare surface temperatures (up to 2 meters) where you have tree cover to similar spots without tree cover. There are studies done already. A difference in temperature is noticeable also in the closest neighbouring areas.
If I can find the articles again (or at least the video, where I saw it), I'll edit and post them here.
It reminds me when russian local government bulldozed a forest and then planted trees, which died shortly after.
ОтветитьJust dig it seems incredible. It's based on education and i believe that education is the best cure that humanity can rely on... But i would like to soma data... Is this really helping (i ask this especially because of the previous points that the video dealt with)
ОтветитьIt's kind of funny to see a UN Climate Change notification underneath the video.
ОтветитьAsk British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to replant the British forest.
But be careful, because you will be arrested for hate speech. The guy doesn't allow opinions, so be careful. You could get a couple of years in prison.
Grass is better than trees at CO2 absorption and make great root systems to slow flooding.
Edit: algie in the ocean produces the most O2 which is why warming and acidifying oceans is such a concern as well as microplastics
I really love how this video overall delivers the message. It's appealing, has top notch editing without being overdone to the point of distracting, and how the script flows.
Since I wasn't educated in the subject matter, it's very fascinating to see how much of an impact only a surface level knowledge could bring, in this case by giving out money to tree planting companies while not knowing how it could instead have a negative impact to the environment. This was quite an eye opening revelation for myself personally haha.
I've tried to keep the "go green" mentality for awhile, so educating myself such as watching this video should prevent myself from making a wrong move that would potentially lead a negative result.
Look up and understand syntropic agriculture 95% tre survival due to self aregation
ОтветитьAs someone who comes from a rural area, I second that working with the local people, with what benefits them in mind is the best course of action. If locals are invested in the project everything gets taken care of much better and the project builds momentum. It also builds morale for that community.
ОтветитьIf you made a Tree Planted project, of cause you cant let it alone. You need People to care of. That count to all projects.
Good projects are feeding gardens
I like videos like this.
I follow Mossy Earth who seem to understand things like this. Knowing where to add things or remove other invasive things.
excellent video, many cases where "tree planting" is simply a gimmick, and appeals to ignorant notions of what a healthy ecosystem looks lke. Like excellent work, literally missing the forest for the trees.
ОтветитьI really enjoyed this! Definitely worth a like and sub!! Alot of it is things i had heard from my grandparents i got to learn from them till they were nearly 100 years old.
ОтветитьTrees are best planted in places where there used to be trees not so long ago, and not be a monoculture, plant quite a few different species
ОтветитьThe real way of sequestering carbon with trees isn't to plant and abandon them, it's to log them after planting, then repeat.
If you plant a tree, let it absorb carbon and live a natural lifecycle, it just rots and releases the carbon when it dies, sometimes even in the form of methane which is worse than carbon. That's why forests like the amazon are only net neutral.
You need to harvest it to remove the carbon. You can use the wood for building, make biochar, or even just sink it in the ocean to form new reefs. Just don't let it rot.
Logging, when done sustainably, is a solution.
Planting trees with the idea of combating CO2 in the atmosphere will barely do anything, locally it could be beneficial, but the amount of trees needed to have a tangible effect of CO2 levels is massive. I don't know the exact numbers but i know that team trees would have had effectively zero effect on CO2 levels, We would likely need many many billions of trees
ОтветитьLOL, what crisis?
Ответитьi forget ur in the yogscast until i see the gamesnight room background lol
ОтветитьStop confusing your social issues. The word 'neocolonialism" does not belong in a video about whether planting trees can hurt the climate.
ОтветитьSo when companies like Apple say that a certain product is climate "positive" because the company gives some money to a tree planting project probably it has no actual benefit to the environment.
ОтветитьWhat the heck is a "boxing day"?
ОтветитьThe Earth is getting warmer. No use denying the obvious. The only question is how we adapt.
ОтветитьDuring the covid, the air become cleaner and wild plants and trees grow every where. The earth and animals don't need human but human are destroying them
ОтветитьThe climate "crisis" isn't real. "Life, uh, finds a way"
ОтветитьPeople in charge will do anything but improve public transport lmao
Ответитьeven replanting is a problem LOL
besides there is no CRISIS!
Okay so it's not that it's bad to try to reduce the amount of desert it's just we've been doing it the wrong way and it's also not the only problem
ОтветитьStop believing an individual changing betters the problem, it is also the community including business owners and people who produce/employ that need to change their practices for the better.
ОтветитьDamn, you've gotten old. That means I've also gotten old :C
ОтветитьDoes anyone know how many of these criteria Ecosia meets
ОтветитьThere is no such thing as ecosystem health. Individual organisms can be healthy, but there is no inherent connection between the state of an ecosystem and the health of the individual organisms within it. Natural ecosystems are stricken with disease, starvation, and predation.
ОтветитьPlanting trees never hurts the climate. Then again - neither does not planting trees. Simon Clark is debunking a myth (2) about a myth (1).
myth 1 - humans can control the climate
myth 2 - planting trees helps the climate
Simon also confuses himself by conflating the climate with the environment. In many contexts planting trees certainly does help the environment.
But what about the albedo effect? Earth's surface with the greatest albedos tends to be desert land. Does that mean we should turn the earth into a desert to "save the climate" AKA to "save the planet". No, clearly not. De-desertification will not boil the planet by increasing the albedo. Simon Clark, unfortunately, does not seem to ken how the climate works. This is because activist Simon fell in love with the greenhouse effect because it aligned with his socio-political ideology. Fell in love so completely that he came to believe the greenhouse effect controls the climate But. The greenhouse effect is a load of hogwash. Simon conned himself - and he sounds like a born-again fanatic because he is one.
I live in the red area and own forest, Should I cut everything down to save the planet?
Ответитьthey not only need trees but plants and animals
ОтветитьIf nature did the damage then nature will take care of it. If we do the damage, replace what was there before we showed up.
