Award winning tree farmer Brendon Raw has integrated conservation areas and productive plantations to build a successful and sustainable timber business in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.

By linking wetlands, grassland and natural forest patches, Brendon is protecting water sources and conserving biodiversity – while producing quality timber for his own sawmill as well as pulp and woodchip markets.

Tree Farmer of the Year
Brendon Raw and his wife Nanette have been declared NCT’s Commercial Tree Farmers of the Year (2021). The Raws operate 1 000 ha of pine and gum plantations in the Karkloof and Kamberg in KwaZulu-Natal, as well as a sawmill producing structural and industrial grade lumber. The NCT Tree Farmer of the Year is awarded annually to tree farming operations that display excellence in sustainable plantation management.
