Low power (QRP), Earth Moon Earth communications (EME) is the most difficult type of amateur radio communications. EME is communications across a total distance of 480,000 miles (772,500 km) resulting in received signal levels that are measured in hundreds of zeptowatts (zW). In the past, amateur radio Earth Moon Earth communications was out of reach for the vast majority of amateur radio operators. Today, with the advent of the JT65B digital signal format and sophisticated digital signal processing, it is within reach of a dedicated amateur operator. This presentation includes the EME ionospheric propagation physics, the engineering considerations for antenna selection, including antenna polarization selection and siting as well as the use of radar equation for predicting EME performance for a postulated QRP EME system. The JT65B signal format is described in detail along with JT65 performance. The design and performance of the 144 MHz KC1HTT QRP EME radio station is described for six successful QSOs obtained in six months. Finally, the long message decode performance is predicted when specific improvements are made to the KC1HTT QRP EME system.

This video is the record of a Zoom Meeting hosted by the Southeastern Amateur Radio Society (SECARS) located in Norwich, Connecticut on 20 April 2023. KC1HTT is grateful for Mark Noe, KE1IU, president of SECARS for organizing and recording the Zoom Meeting.
