Bondo and sand. Plus you coulda at least putty filled the screws and the joints and sand them down for a more finished example.

i would've just made it a bigger hole and slapped a soffit vent cover over it, attics needs to breath. Honestly even if you were trying to fix the cuts, just use filler lmao

The ugly cuts were a poor attempt to not use pre-made vents, right? So just cut out like you did and size it for the required vent. Install and it looks great!!! Nice idea to replace the "damaged" wood soffit but you don't address the replacement venting??????

Some people don’t realise that sanding bondo isn’t a easy task when you’re two storey high. What Richard did makes more sense and is more time efficient.

The more I thought about this the more I thought that this repair was overly complicated. Woodepox from Abatron is def the way to go. Home restorers have been using this product for well over 20 years. Solid product. "Everything looks like a nail to a hammer."

I’ve done similar fixes to this one. The best solution I found was to create a jig sized to work for all of the Dutchman’s and use a half inch router with a pattern bit to route the problem area. While one guy is routing, one or two other helpers can be milling and installing the Dutchman’s. For this task, figure a 1/2” depth for the router and glue the dutchys in with a couple 23 gauge pin nails. The 1/2” depth could be done with one pass with the right router

Make it make it! Make that t-shirt 😆 You will never again get to experience the daily grind 🤭 I initially thought the fix was to have a cut out for a real metal vent insert / box. Instead the fix was to bring it back to its original non-vented aspect. Like @garysurovec states Bondo, Sandpaper, Paint - the easy fix but I reckon you like a proper fix ☝

Youve been doing carpentry for a while but its obvious you were never trained by a real carpenter. Bondo and paint would have done the job and would have taken way less time. Just like when i watched your video of you making a shiplap wall with t&g and all your seams popped out only for you to fill them again so that they can pop again since t&g is not ship lap lol. I like your videos but sometimes you make me laugh lol 😂

This reminds me of the old saying that if you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. 🤷‍♂️
The painters were probably booked and didn’t want to spend a day patching someone else’s bs. Those crosscuts are going to have to have much more precise patching/fill.

I thought I was missing something. Does he not know how to patch?

Bondo wood filler, gorilla wood filler, or any brand you prefer.

Bondo is rock solid but can be messy. Have to work quick with the hardener and over filling needs to be chiseled and sanded.

For this the Gorilla wood filler or the minwax equivalent putty filler is qiuck. Applied with fingers are putty knife, dries in as little as 5 minutes (sometimes longer, about 20 min. max I'd say) and becomes rock solid as well. Sand, add primer and paint. Done!

No one would ever know even from inches away. If you can't do that you need to practice more or try doing something else.

Make a router jig that covers where the lines are cut. Set depth to the thickness of a piece of 1/4” ply. Glue on, bonds joints, sand and finish.
