It’s an interesting question. I don’t think that you are a merely a watered down version of your ancestors. I don’t think you should bear their shame or revel in their glories really. You need not be defined by these echoes of the past. They are fascinating, but we shouldn’t feel the need to atone for the sins of our fathers. We all have enough of our own baggage that we are responsible for. The idea of compensating people for the treatment of their ancestors is pretty crazy. We could all claim a grievance of some kind and we could all be taxed too! That lovely adage ‘let bygones be bygones’ sometimes seems better than raking up the past.

I'm sure uncovering and engineering white guilt is high on the priority of this show.

Sunny Hostin on the View often went on about reparations and how as a black person she was owed reparations from white people. Then she did one of these programs on ancestry and found out that she descended from Spanish ancestry and that her ancestors were slave owners. When Spain outlawed slavery her ancestors fled to Puerto Rico where slavery was still allowed and where she was born. After finding out that she's descended from slave owners she doesn't mention reparations anymore as she's the one who would be paying the reparations.

I am always surprised when 'Black' people American or British think that there ancestors were 'slaves' when of course they were slave owners.
It is a fact that few people wish to even acknowledge that slavery existed in Africa long before 'white' people even knew where Africa was or even if it existed.
An ancient African saying goes, A man (or woman) that does not own a slave makes a slave of himself!
