if there is no limit on the number of ethereum coins, then how is it better than the USD when it comes to inflation? Sounds like they can make them up at any time. Technology cleverness aside, why does ether have ANY economic value? Bitcoin is presented as a limited resource which is like a hedge against dollar devaluation. Ethereum selling point seems to be its cleverness when it comes to on the chain code execution. But why would this capability be worth $700 or whatever the price is today.
