I have read Rick Atkinson’s “The British are Coming” and “The Fate of the Day” and listened to both in audiobook form. these are monumental books on the American Revolution.

my great Aunt had a letter from a relative that fought in the Revolution war. I was super excited to read it as 14 y/o thinking their be war talk. Nope...just family talk and love for his wife.

I am inspired to add both his books on the Revolution to my 2025 gift list for reading over the holidays. (And I am a Canadian, no less.) 😉

Interesting discussion.
Nevertheless, I must say the the very idea of "royalty" is repulsive to me, as is the idea of one person owning another. 💠

Let's see, it's half past seven, I guess we've all just about forgotten about the 45 million dollar parade by now? Money well spent, I'd say?

Brian Williams gets in trouble for lying; Terry Moran gets it for NOT lying—trump is the only deciding factor for that. Lawsuits on one side, threats to withhold FCC licensing on the other; total control of the networks.

That bit about the slaves was the part I can't believe he brought up? They abolish'd on mainland England in74, i believe , and the writing was on the wall..¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Of course , I don't believe in casting anachronistic judgement—I just love history

Ironically, if America had decided to stay in the Commonwealth, we would’ve been rid of Trump a long time ago. We’d be in much better shape. Think Canada Australia, New Zealand. I don’t think this country should be so proud of its history. American independence has culminated in America alone.

Did the Revolution prolong slavery in the US? Weren't the Brits already phasing it out on the homeland?

To think the Founding Fathers suffered so much just for TACO to run this Grand Experiment into the ditch. The MAGA cowards allow it to happen.

Thank you for this interview. Learned so much from The British Are Coming and look forward to this new book. How much we need what your last question addressed, and how timely and helpful Atkinson's narrative history could be. If only the politicians would get on board with intelligent, thoughtful attention to our origins and take on the task of educating a continually misinformed public and, dare I say, misguided Supreme Court.

Next step of the American revolution is socialism but so many people aren’t ready for that. There’s a reason why the Americans supported the French Revolution and even the Russian initially 😂

These hosts are insufferable. The guests are good, but the hosts are so full of themselves. I will never forget their conclusion before the election that Trump wasn't a fascist.

As a former intelligence officer with experience in Vietnam, I have often wondered whether historians consider the roots of revolution as a subject matter in itself. I was instantly obvious to me that the roots of revolution in Vietnam was bottom up. In the United States it seemed ironic that its own revolution against Britain was more a top to bottom experience, with many of the poorer colonists not interested in participating. In fact, those who weren't interested in participating, were often treated brutally by those who were, which is why so many of them went to Canada. By extension, if that notion is true, it would certainly account for the over zealous nature of capitalism that has driven America ever since and also explains why Canada and the United States have such radically different views on social policy.

But hey, guys, I'm WRITING here since FEBRUARY, that you are already in the middle of becoming a DICTATORSHIP.

Watching that from Germany. We had the same game 100 years ago.

And what do you answer?
All the times?

"All the FAULT of the RED voters and we stop that in the MIDTERMS."

There will only be RUSSIAN MIDTERMS.

Just look at happy flag day at the pentagon:

Your new flags are the russian ones.
;-)
