Jamie - Good information. However, you misspelled "Manhattan" twice. 😞
ОтветитьLOVE IT JAMIE ! HOPE OUR PATHS CROSS AGAIN SOON !
ОтветитьHey Jaime, from someone who lives in the area and also works at the terminals, your info is bang on! Will be sure to share your vid.
ОтветитьJust got off the Symphony of the Seas departing from Cape Liberty. If you are on the east coast, Amtrak is an easy ride to the Newark International Airport. Many hotels near the Mills at Jersey Gardens offer free airport shuttles. Lyft from those hotels is pretty reasonable and easy.
ОтветитьWish you had spoken more about Brooklyn cruise terminal.
ОтветитьSailaways from NY is one of the best in the world, up there with Sydney and Rio. However our disembarkation at Manhattan terminal was chaotic and unorganised. 3000 people were just let off at the same time, no one could find their taxis etc and not much in way of cafes etc to wait and let crowds go down. On top of everything it was pouring with rain, just a disaster. After about 2 hours we found our connection to take us to Newark. Thanks for video.
ОтветитьWe live in upstate New York and are lucky enough to live near Yankee Trails and use their cruise express bus to go down to the city. We prefer the New Jersey port.
ОтветитьI live in New York love leaving out of ny or New Jersey
ОтветитьWhen cruising out of Bayonne with Celebrity- they circle the Statute of Liberty. Love seeing it!
ОтветитьLiving here in Brooklyn all my life, the convenience of the subway system cannot be overstated. Yes, it has gotten a bad rap recently (and deservedly so) and there are many precautions to take-no matter where you are going: don't look at other people, mind your own business, don't flash your cash or credit cards or jewelry, put your phone away or hold it close, offer your seat to a pregnant person, the disabled or elderly, and, the most important of all, pay attention to what's going on around you. Don't stand near the edge of the train platform waiting for the train to pull in. If you're not comfortable being on a particular subway car, wait until the train stops at the next station and switch cars! The NYC subway system covers all of Manhattan and the outer boroughs, which makes it the best mode of getting around and the least expensive. Let's not forget about the buses, too. Be careful and alert and you will thank me. Enjoy!!!
ОтветитьBeing from Central Jersey, we love sailing from Cape Liberty and it takes our daughter only a bit over an hour to get us to embarkation. We have been out of Manhattan and Brooklyn as well and definitely agree that the sailaways are breath taking. Last year out of Bayonne on the Celebrity Summit to Bermuda, the ship did a sail by the Statue of Liberty and turn around near Ellis Island with a second look at Lady Liberty from the starboard side. The Manhattan skyline, Governors Island, and the Verrazzano Bridge with a NYFD fireboat spray were all a part of a jaw dropping sailaway! Super video Jamie! 👍☺
ОтветитьThe reason New York is called the Big Apple because...(more)
ОтветитьAs a New Yorker who’s never taken a cruise before, I really appreciated the well labeled, well described overhead maps of each of the 3 ship terminals. Now I know where they are are how I’ll get to them when I take my first cruise. Thank you!
ОтветитьFor sailing out of the Brooklyn terminal using the NYC ferry is a great option. It drops you off right at the terminal and you avoid all the traffic getting in for the drop off. There is no good subway option to get to this terminal.
ОтветитьNew Yorker here 🙋🏽♀️ use public transport to get to your cruise port—trust me—Uber/Lift, trains/buses are fastest, cheapest and most convenient
ОтветитьAs of our last sailing Port Liberty guaranteed parking and was $30 per day. The garage was for disabled parking only, the ground lots, while not in great condition, held most of the cars.
ОтветитьI have to wonder why you would suggest, if you are local, driving and paying $45. A day when you could take a cab for much less.
ОтветитьI’m from Philly and leaving from New Jersey is awesome. Just a 2 hour ride.
ОтветитьCruising out of NY is spectacular!! There’s nothing like cruising by the Statue of Liberty 🗽
ОтветитьWhich is the smartest way to get to Brooklyn cruise terminal from Tuscany luxurban hotel?
How much ?
I am from NJ. If you are cruising from Cape Liberty, Bayonne NJ , Newark airport is your best option as it is 10 miles from the port and on the same side of the Hudson River as the port. No tunnel traffic to deal with. In terms of hotels I would recommend the Newark Airport Hotels for an overnight option. If you intend to tour Manhattan, you might consider the financial district of Jersey City. It has great views of Manhattan across the Hudson River and easy access to the Path Train or ferry to access NYC for just a few dollars and in just a few minutes. The train takes you directly to the World Trade Center site, or it has options to midtown Manhattan at 33rd Street. Uber to the port from this location. I have found the port to be well organized with views of the Statue of Liberty.
ОтветитьCruised from New York 3x from Baltimore. Drove the 1st time and took Flixbus the other 2 and then Lyft to the terminal
ОтветитьLeft out of Manhattan port on NCL to the Caribbean a few yrs ago. BEST embarkation day EVER...call cab (from home in Brooklyn) & walk onto ship. That's it!
Funniest thing to watch folks gather around the pools & wonder why they're freezing & not getting a tan the first 2 days. Ummm, bcuz we left from NEW YORK CITY...IN JANUARY!!😂
It’s called the Big Apple because NY used to be a major apple producer. The times mentioned for driving are with no traffic with rarely ever happens. Allow for double the time he mentioned unless you’re flying in at 6am on Sunday.
ОтветитьYou listed the three airports, but left iut Amtrak. Amtrak and local rail serves Penn Station / Moynahan in midtown Manhattan convenient to public transport, and quite close to Manhattan Cruise Port.
ОтветитьGo to Sardis and take in the Broadway experience from the bar on the restaurant s second floor bar .
ОтветитьHope you do a review on Celebrity Cruises. We did the Beyond out of Fort Lauderdale. Our very first. It was wonderful. Hope to see you do that
ОтветитьAmtrak is also a great option for getting to NYC and can be quite inexpensive if you book early. Up and down the East Coast there are also a number of specialty bus lines, but they take longer than the trains, usually, how ever, costing less.
ОтветитьI’m a New Yorker and love cruising out of NYC. I just wish there were more choices of destinations leaving from this area.
ОтветитьAmtrak is such an overlooked and underestimated option, especially if cruising out of Manhattan. You can walk to the cruise terminal from the station as it's only about 2 miles away. But, if you can't walk or you have a bunch of luggage, you're right at Time Square and an Uber/Lyft or Taxi will be instant. And, Amtrak is going to cost you less than $100.
ОтветитьI highly recommend a car service, “Carmel Car Service “. I’ve used them 5 times so far. 50.00 from LGA which compares very favorably to regular cabs. This car is always right there to pick you up and will deliver you to front door. I cannot get over the convenience.
ОтветитьBrooklyn probably has the best pizza.
ОтветитьFor cruisers leaving from Cape Liberty, if you are driving and staying over night...I suggest the Aloft hotel in Secaucus, NJ or any of the nearby hotels. It's affordable, offers free parking, and is minutes away from The American Dream!
ОтветитьRoyal and Celebrity cruisers , this tip is for you. Even though some sites say you will sail from NY, know that you’ll sail only from NJ port. To get to that port from New York City is a very long and expensive ride due to need to cross two expensive bridges and leave the city to go through Staten Island (aka traffic, and god forbid there’s marathon or accident on the bridge). . Therefore, if you are flying, I highly recommend flying only to Newark -EWR in NJ. The port City is called Bayonne, but the port itself is called Cape Liberty, and I’ve seen confusion everywhere because of this especially since some sites show this as NY port.
ОтветитьGreat video! Minor correction: it's Manhattan. I'm a NYker and a spelling geek. 😊
ОтветитьOne option you also might consider (particularly if you are within driving distance) is using the commuter rail systems (north or south) to park outside NY city. You would need to arrange transport from the train station to the cruise port, but it certainly would be cheaper than trying to park at the ports.
ОтветитьLast cruise out of Manhattan Cruise Terminal, we drove in from our hotel stay in NJ. I had to "guess" if I wanted the GW Bridge upper or lower deck. I chose correctly with "lower deck". I then was stuck in the left lane knowing I had to go South to the cruise port, I was lucky because the far left lane IS THE EXIT to go south to the cruise terminal. So take lower deck, get in left lane, and you'll be all set. I lucked out, but it would have been great to know ahead of time!
ОтветитьThank you for this video! You have to spend a few days in NYC. I'm dying to go back!
ОтветитьBaltimore is an easy and fun city to cruise out of.
I love the Vision of the Seas.
Question: How far out does Princess generally let you know which NY port you will leave from. Our itinerary currently says “Brooklyn or Manhattan”. Thanks!
ОтветитьAny recommendations on hotels for coming into NYC the night before? Thanks
ОтветитьIt a horse racing term it comes from UK York which new York named
ОтветитьWorth mentioning that most of the major sites in NYC require pre-booking.
ОтветитьJust have someone drop u off if you’re lucky or take the bus/train .Thank goodness I live here in NYC. The extra expenses to travel around the city is horrible.
ОтветитьBeen to New York before and had an awesome carriage ride thru time square, this time I want to visit Central Park !!
ОтветитьTaking our first cruise out of Cape Liberty in May. Thanks for the wonderful tips!
ОтветитьLove the video, I'm not a critic but Manhattan is misspelled. Service announcement for those who don't live here in NY. Thank you for posting your informational videos. I look forward to a cruise from this area.
ОтветитьMy last cruise out of Brooklyn, we walked the Brooklyn Bridge and went to Keen's..... absolutely loved that whole trip! The up coming cruise we have booked will ne out of Manhattan and plan on doing the Empire state building and Gallagher's. Can't wait!
ОтветитьThis was very helpful for our transatlantic sailing. Thanks
ОтветитьWe are leaving in Sept. on Virgin maiden voyage out of NYC to Bermuda. Going to arrive a few days ahead of time and see the city!
