Where does the Bible say that it isn't absolute? If your parents are Christian and the boyfriend is Christian where does it say in the Bible that the parents objection of the relationship isn't absolute? Did that come from culture? Modern day psychology? Or the Bible?

What's the point of giving her away if she removed herself from the authority? How can a man who isn't the husband be held in higher esteem than "honor your father and mother"?
Leaving and cleaning in the he Bible is related to a husband and wife not a boyfriend and girlfriend. Where you do the leave part before marriage and the cleave part at (and after) marriage.

So if her parents are atheist and don’t want her marrying a believer we should care for their blessing? I disagree with Piper, then again I disagree with him in a lot

God made the father to protect and hand his daughter to the future husband. If the father is under God, the father knows if the potential man is right for the daughter. Where in the Bible does it say the father is no longer the protector of the daughter when she becomes 18 years old? It doesn’t! The Bible says when they marry they leave the father and mother and cleave. So that said, the father first gives the blessing and is confident of Gods will then he hands his daughter to the man and takes the daughter and cleaves. This man is misguided and teaching crap!

This is universal. Your parents want the best for you and they have wisdom in what's good for you as they have seen life and they thenselves have made bad decisions. It does not matter if you are Muslim, Christian, or whatever, there knowledge will help you to make the right decision. Do not let guys take you for a ride.

I like Paul Washer’s testimony. He asked a man’s permission to marry his daughter and was refused. He respected that and six months later was approached by the father, who was so impressed by how Paul respected him that he knew he could not find a better man for his daughter. The rest is history. :)

i think pastor is saying.. parents' blessings are very important. however God's will should always come first.
If he or she is of God.. and your parents are missing it or misreading it you should obey God.

I believe it is important to have parent's blessing in marriage. But it would be so difficult to honor your mother's opinion when she tells you to marry a rich white old man and all races are bad except European Caucasian. And you are not supposed to express your opinion or discuss it because she tells you God wants you to honor the parents.

Unfortunately my mom is an atheist... she does not believe in love, she does not believe in marriage... :(

Try and look for Paul Washer's videos on marriage. He is really good. My advice to you would be that you two must at least have a stable life without relying on your parents to pay for stuff (gasoline, rent, food, etc.). Your husband must be able to support you independently of others.

so if you don't have total blessing after so much time and work, you can continue on with the marriage?
