We continue to introduce you to little-known sights of Hungary. Today we will show you one simply fabulous place!
It is located in the northern part of Hungary in the area of the city of Salgotarjan. 5 million years ago, volcanoes erupted actively here. As a result of this volcanic activity, rocks of stunning beauty were formed in this area. Now there are several routes for hiking. One of the paths takes us to the ruins of Salgo Castle. This castle was built on top of a long-extinct volcano and was considered impregnable. The Turks were able to capture it only by cunning.
Now it is a wonderful observation deck and a tourist attraction with free access.
The great Hungarian poet Petofi Sandor visited Salgo Castle in 1845 and wrote: "There might not have been another castle in Hungary so close to the stars, like Salgó. I sat on its tallest tip for long: my eyes travelled miles and my spirit centuries away."
Having descended from the castle, we continued our walk along the path along the amazing volcanic rocks. But the most stunning view awaited us at the end. This is a peak called the Witches' Rock. This is a truly incredibly beautiful rock. It was formed as a result of a volcanic eruption and has a very unusual shape. According to legend, this is where witches fly to the Sabbath. And I really want to believe it!
