Back to this hys handi..25 watt at 20+ miles, from your back yard up on mount olympus (haha) to your pal down in the low valley..so line of sight was not an issue..you were utilizing the inluded 15" sma female or male whip. Point here is if an adaptor was used, connecting to the proper band antenna mounted up at roofline down in the calley valley, will the distance be comparable to the actual test? 🤔

Mod the condensor mic element .
My uv6r reaquired a element right out of box, 9 cold solder joints on the k jacks, speaker function. Spacing between jacks was less than the speaker mic male pins therefore breaking the solder connections of pc board, but was repairable..so now the uv 6r sets on the shelf collecting dust since a battery is very pia to find. Btw, it does do both the ham 2m, 70 cm AND our fav jeepster, trucker, biker and prepper band..gmrs .

How long does the battery last at 25 watts and who do you talk to?

"24 hr self destruct" requiring re-programming is very useful when/if enemy ends up with your coms....helps in prevention of their disrupting / disabling your coms. Good for recon unit / scout.

So i bought a set of these. I was very happy with them.

One started to throw an unknown error code? At least one I cant find info on. On high power (and only on high power) when i push the ptt it should light up red and stay red until im done transmitting. It light up red and then switches back and forth from red to yellow. No idea what it means and since there is no customer support, good luck figuring out what it means. Anyone know what it means??

I know these radios are putting out some serious power because when I was testing one within a few feet of a lead light bulb the light bulb would go out when I keyed up the radio on the high power mode. Not so much on the low power mode. Fortunately I can figure out what frequencies the radio is transmitting on each of its Channels with a spectrum analyzer that has a frequency counter function.

This is rookie question, but what is the range of these units. I live in a semi suburban and semi rural area of South Miami,Florida.
Trying to figure out which handheld have a decent range right out of the box I’m still learning the craft and such, antennas,extensions, etc. etc. Curious what is the normal range of these units in semi optimal conditions. Yes I am a rookie.

What kind of battery supports 25 watts all day? Ppreppers are better off with SSB 11 meters.

GMRS is very portable and sometimes 5 miles ot fars can be done. 11 meter SSB (CB) is good for 50 miles of fars every day without a linear amplifier.
