Original Hurricane| Not O'Brien's Hurricane from New Orleans

The Hurricane is a simple Tiki drink that originated in New Orleans as a means for bars to use up all the extra rum they had to purchase when purchasing a case of whiskey. This drink originated at Pat O'Brien's in the 1940s by head bartender Louis Culligan.

However, the drink became popular, and soon Pat O'Brien's had the Hurricane on the menu as a regular drink. Sadly, building a drink for mass production often requires changes to accommodate demand and ensure profitability. This is why many recipes today and drinks today call for fassionola instead of passionfruit syrup.

Hurricane
Original Recipe:

2.0 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
2.0 oz. Passion Fruit Syrup (homemade or links below for premade versions)
4.0 oz. Dark Rum (dark Jamaican or Demerara rums work well) I prefer Denizen Vatted Dark

Combine all the ingredients into a drink mixer with 12 oz. of crushed ice and 4 to 6 pieces of cracked ice to help with agitation. Flash blend and open, pour into your Hurricane glass, and top off with crushed ice. Garnish with a crushed cocktail umbrella speared into some dehydrated citrus wheels.
