For people whose money/income only circulate around MYR, u may think “nah, still not strong enough”.

But if your income is in USD or you use USD for things in your life, current exchange rate really shows that MYR is getting stronger 😂

Ringgit strengthening also means some will finally be able to take their money out of the country.

Who said Malaysian ringgit is strong? It should be US$1.00=MYR2.00~MYR2.50 if not so much corruption by government servants or politicians'.

To be a high income nation we must have strong currency and emulate Singapore. Move up the international supply chain, import must be cheap, value add and export products

Move away from cash crop business....making us totally dependent on cheap foreign labour

If ringgit strong, we pay lesser for import products but export products become more expensive. If ringgit weak, the reverse happens. So it all depends what malaysia want to be, nett export or nett import?

Hi Emir, in case you didn't know, the ringgit is not traded in the international forex market. So, the supply and demand concept doesn't apply to the ringgit as it does for other currencies like the Yen. The ringgit is determined in a non-deliverable derivative exchange in Singapore. In other words, the ringgit's value is decided by America, based on political factors. As you can see for yourself, Malaysia's economic fundamentals were strong and yet the ringgit was going down in 2023 until now. Ever wondered why? The ringgit is determined more by political factors and less by economic fundamentals. This could be the reason Malaysia was contemplating joining BRICS - to escape America's bullying and dominance.

I am happy that our MYR is strengthening and not just againts USD pair but againts many others in general. But as you have mentioned that it does raised a concern whether it will backfire much sooner than we think if it gets too strong considering we are mostly a raw materials exports oriented country. Lets hope that our tech industry is more than ready to make up for that short coming soon.
