Heston and co. were 2k years in the future, not 3k.

Over the past 55 years I have wondered how the Statue of Liberty could have been teleported to a coastal cliff from New York harbor with the torch and the head rays intact. I guess I need to look into more suspension of belief, don't I?

I never noticed the fishing boat out in the water during the last scene. I guess that's what you call a troll.

I grew up on these classics <3 I've tried to like the new versions, especially as Gary Oldman was in one, but... gimme the old school man-in-an-ape-costume anyway. Though I did kinda love Tim Burton's enough to name my cat Thade. At least he used actors in costumes.

Entirely fitting that the Rod Serling-est, twistiest Rod Serling twist ending should be filmed at a place called Point DOOM.

i think thats also the same location where they filmed the pilot episode of I Dream of Jeanie where Tony Nelson found the bottle.

What really made this scene so profound and just downright scary at the time the movie was released is that many Americans truly felt that nuclear annihilation was inevitable. There was a real and present danger called Russia and the Cuban missile crises was still fresh in people's minds as it occurred just six years before the movie was released. The movie was conveying to many viewers that this is where were headed.

The end scene was not Pierre Boulles idea it wasn't in his book monkey planet. It was thought of by the genius of Rod Serling of twilight zone which makes a lot of sense.

There is a website called Historic Aerials that has aerial and satellite pictures of different locations from the last seventy or so years. You can see Ape City in Malibu Creek Park from around 1968.

There's a great Greek restaurant not far from Point Dume in Malibu called Taverna Tony. Check it out. Also, please learn how to say Charleton Heston's name correctly. You mispronounced his first name every single time in this video.

You'd think that the "much loved" location might get more love from Californian's. But who needs money to repair a fence? But hey, the scene is famous because of a conservative Republican Charlton Heston so it's no surprise at all.
