Biggest downhill star in the 1980's was Peter Müller of Switzerland with 19 World Cup downhill victories. From 1984 until 1989 he won four silver medals (2 olympic and 2 worlds) at the big events. Home World Championships in Crans Montana 1987 was a highlight of his career though: Müller set the fastest time on a long piste National and became a World Champion beating his eternal rival and teammate Pirmin Zurbriggen. Switzerland dominated this race: Karl Alpiger took the bronze medal, Franz Heinzer was unfortunate to come 4th
